Grade 9 students learn the tricks of the trade
in annual t.echnology workshop at St. Anne's
art of welding a try. They got their
hands dirty while studying trans-
portation as they worked with small
engines and changed tires.
Last week's workshop was the sec-
ond of its kind to be offered at St.
Anne's.
Martens said the event would
likely occur annually, as long as
funding is available.
"Technology at St. Anne's contin-
ues to grow in leaps and bounds, so
much so that we are having trouble
housing it all, but it's great and
we're hoping it will continue," he
said.
"We've had good support from the
community the last couple of years.
They really seem to like this pro-
gram."
Participating schools included St.
James of Seaforth.

Area Grade 8 students opened
their eyes to the world of skilled
trades last week during St. Anne's
annual technology workshop.
Funded by the Ontario Youth
Apprenticeship Program (OYAP),
the day -long workshop entitled
Yours to Discover — A Skilled Career
brought senior students from St.
Anne's eight feeder schools to
Clinton on Nov. 3.
"It's done as a day to provide both
parents and students with the
knowledge that skilled trades and
apprenticeships are good career
choices," coordinator Tim Martens
explained, adding skilled trades are
among the top opportunities avail-
able in Huron County.
"These careers allow people to
provide for their communities and
their families."
During the
workshop, stu-
