HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2005-10-26, Page 21Correspondence Items wanted for fifth annual Christmas Fantasy Auction and Dinner Cavan United Church celebrates anniversary with guest speaker Cavan United Church celebrated its 130th anniversary this past Sunday with Rev. Harry Disher from Grand Bend as the guest speaker. His message was titled "Living Love, What's Not to Like." Special music was pro- vided by soloist Kelly Marks of Seaforth. After the well -attended ser- vice, a tasty lunch was served by the ladies of the church. Get well wishes are extended to Maja Dodds who is also having tests this week. Jim and Diane Rapson recently returned from a trip south. They visited a cousin of Diane's in Indianapolis and also her uncle in Inglewood, Florida. While they were in Florida, the weather was hot. They visited the Epcot Centre, Kennedy Space Centre and Sarasota. Other places of interest enjoyed were the Mammoth caves in Kentucky, the Smokey Mountains, Blue Ridge Shenandoah and Allegheny Mountains. They crossed the bor- der at Fort Erie and vis- ited more relatives in the Niagara area before returning home. Ken and Marion ME= McClure recently returned home from a trip west. They trav- elled through Missouri, Kansas stopping at Colorado Springs and Aspen in Colorado. They also toured the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah. Next they drove along the Columbia River through Oregon and Washington stopping to visit relatives at Portland. Next stop was Broadfoot relatives in Vernon, B.C. From here they travelled through the Rockies to Bowden, Alta. to call on Ruth and Edgar Willert. Heading east, they dropped down to the U.S. going through Montana and North Dakota and spent an afternoon with the Waschers in Minnesota. Mrs. Wascher is the former Sandy McClure of Winthrop. They recently had twin girls and with their toddler are kept busy. Sandy's mother Sharon was also there. Travelling towards home through Northern Michigan the trees were just starting to change colours. The weather was perfect and each day was a new landscape. Marion reports she is ready to go again. The fifth annual Christmas Fantasy Auction and Dinner will be held on Saturday, Nov 5 at the Hensall Community Centre. There will be a social hour from 5 to 6 p.m. and after the dinner, the auc- tion will begin at 7:30 p.m., with auctioneer Bruce Rathwell. If you have items to donate, bring them to the Hensall United Church office. Call Lynn at 236-4797 to reserve tickets. At Hensall United Church Lucielle Beer was the greeter. The service began with an organ pre- lude with Rachel Wood. Jan Collins did the read- ing. John and Veronica Thomson were the ushers. • Bev Rabbets was the vis- iting minister. Her mes- sage was "Oh that I might see and understand." At Carmel Presbyterian Church Tracy Whitson- Bahro was the minister. Her message was "The Death of Moses." Joyce Pepper was the organist with Harry Smith receiving the offering.
