Dublin's A.J. Larivee prepares for new season
with Alabama -Huntsville Chargers of the CHA
Jeff Heuchert
No longer a sophomore, things are
looking up for Dublin's A.J. Larivee,
as he prepares for his third season
in College Hockey American (CHA).
The 21 -year-old junior, is hoping
for a season much different than
last, when he broke his wrist while
playing for the University of
Alabama -Huntsville Chargers.
The injury occurred the first game
back after the Christmas break, and
sidelined Larivee for much of the
season's second half.
Larivee is 100 per cent now but
says last season was a downer.
"I was out of the loop,
but I'm getting back into
things," he says about the
upcbming season, which
begins Oct. 14 and 15
with an exhibition series
against the University of
Windsor.
"I'm going to have a
good year, as long as I
don't get injured," Larivee
says jokingly.
It will be hard to match the
team's success though.
Last season the Chargers lost in
the CHA finals.
This year, the team looks just as
good, and expectations
are high.
"Everybody returned
in great shape," says
Larivee, which hasn't
always been the case.
Being a junior has
also given Larivee more
responsibility, some-
thing he's not shying
away from.
He says even the coach is looking
to him for leadership with the
younger players, on and off the ice.
"Guys are looking up to me, I have
to lead by example."
A.J.
Larivee
Aside from this season, Larivee
has high expectations for himself.
He hopes to earn the right to cap-
tain the Chargers next season,
before he moves on.
As for after that, Larivee says, "I'd
like to pursue hockey if I can."
He expects he'll move on to one of
the many hockey leagues in the
U.S., such as the East Coast Hockey
League, Central Hockey League, or
the United Hockey league.
From there, Larivee would like to
move to the American Hockey
League, and if possible, one day lace
up his skates to play in the NHL.
