after, how it could survive as a village once
again.
Residents at the Hensall meeting also said the
village has been neglected when it comes to
expected services, such as leaf pickup, maintain-
ing street flags, and repairing damaged side-
walks.
"(Bluewater) council has a lack of respect for
Hensall," said Kay Wise, one of the people spear-
heading the de -amalgamation movement.
At the village meeting, many Hensall residents
questioned how successful the entire process will
be but Wise could not give a clear answer.
"There's no guarantees, because there's
no precedence for this in the province," she
said.
Another organizer, Nick Bjelan, said
there is nothing in the books on de-amalga-

Wise undaunted
by political barriers
to de -amalgamation
Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell admits there's a
lot of pressure in the rid-
ing to look at de -amalga-
mation.
However, Mitchell said
there is no official process
in place for an area to de -
amalgamate.
In fact, she pointed out
when the municipalities
were re -structured in
2000, there was legislation
put in place that didn't
allow for the creation of
more municipalities.
Yet, Kay Wise, of the
Hensall campaign, is not
daunted by any obstacles
her village faces to de -
amalgamate.
"It's clear that no one
knows what to do with us
but we're going to take it
as far as we can," Wise
said Friday.
"I know they're leery of
us but politicians are
there to keep us to the
guidelines. But, the guide-
lines are not etched in
stone," Wise said.
Wise said she heard
from the Minister of
Municipal Affairs that no
doors were closed to the
possibility of de -amalga-
mation.
And, Wise added that
with all of the interest in
Hensall's push to de -amal-
gamate, politicians should
take note.
Wise listed Kincardine,
Chatham/Kent, Mildmay,
Ailsa Craig and Grey as
municipalities with resi-
dents interested in de -
amalgamation which
attended the recent meet-
ing in Hensall where,
aimed with a business
plan, the villagers voted to
pursue de -amalgamation.
"If that many people are
unhappy, they should do
something," she said.
Wise said she under-
stands the challenge
Hensall is presenting to
local and provincial politi-
cians.
"I wouldn't be in Bill
Dowson's shoes. He hasn't
encouraged us to break
away but he has said he
wouldn't stand in our
way," Wise said.
