continues
in
Seaforth
Seaforth Grain
Elevators and remote-
controlled traffic lights
on the Egmondville
bridge were again
targets of vandalism
on Oct. 1 and 2,
reports the Huron
OPP.
For the second
weekend in a row,
several windows were
smashed with rocks at
Seaforth Grain
Elevators on Crombie
Street on Oct. 1.
And, on Oct. 2,
damage was done, also
for the second weekend
in a row, to two
remote-controlled
flagman lights, owned
by Premier Concrete at
the work site on
Kippen Road. The
lights, valued at
$40,000, were pushed
over and the metal
surrounding the lights
was damaged.
Anyone with related
information is asked to
call the Huron OPP.

if Hensall
will be able
to de-
amaigamate

Huron County council found itself
examining de -amalgamation
processes after a community
meeting in Hensall.
Coun. Bill Dowson, mayor of
Bluewater, told council officially
there is no de -amalgamation policy
in place and that municipal councils
can choose to listen to the people
running the campaigns if they want.
"There's no process at the
Ministry of Municipal Affairs,"
Dowson commented at the Oct. 6
monthly meeting.
Hensall, which is part of the
Municipality of Bluewater, recently
voted overwhelmingly in favour of
taking the village's de -
amalgamation process to the next
step.
In that step, the concerned
Hensall residents would approach
Bluewater council and try and work
out a process to de -amalgamate.
However, Dowson said no where is
it written that council has to listen.
Goderich Coun. Deb Shewfelt said
he had read the people feel like they
are being encouraged to proceed.
"That's unfortunate because it's
false hope," Shewfelt commented.
Coun. Dowson responded that he
doesn't know where the process is
going and said he's been instructed
by the province not to encourage the
people trying to de -amalgamate.
At a community meeting with
more than 100 residents attending,
it was revealed that the community
should be able to survive without
being part of a larger municipality.
