Cycling club inviting local bike
enthusiasts to come out, exercise
By Susan Hundertmark
Expositor Editor
While he's cycled across
Italy as a tourist, Pete
Klaver's goals for a bicycle
club in Seaforth are not so
exotic.
"I just want to give people
a chance to get together and
have some exercise," he says.
Klaver decided to try and
organize a cycling club after
talking to a man who recently
moved to the area from
Mississauga and wondered
why such a thing doesn't
exist in Seaforth.
"It only takes one person to
get it going. It's very informal
- whoever shows up can
decide what they want to do
with it," he said.
Klaver, the current owner
of the Seaforth bowling alley,
said he is offering the
business as a meeting place
for cyclists before they set out

on a weekly Sunday morning
ride.
"If people are into
mountain biking, maybe they
want to head out to Hullett
(Wildlife Conservation Area).
Or maybe they just want to
ride 20 kilometres for a
morning ride," he said.
Klaver said he sees lots of
local people out riding their
bikes and thought a club
would give people a reason to
get some regular exercise.
And, once a club is off the
ground, he said events such as
bicycle poker rallies could be
organized, possibly raising
money for local charities.
"I'm just trying to get some
community spirit going in
town. We'll have to see if
there's any interest," he said.
Anyone interested in
joining a cycling club in
Seaforth is invited to bring
their bikes to the bowling
alley on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 8
a.m.
