Art Finlayson Memorial tourney
draws 91 bowlers to Seaforth
Weather ideal for tournament's
26th anniversary Wednesday
The Seaforth Lawn Bowling greens saw 91 bowlers in
play on Wednesday, Aug. 17 in the 26th anniversary of the
Art Finlayson Memorial tournament.
The weather was ideal. Drawmaster Neil Beuerman
welcomed all present and Mary Finlayson also extended
greetings on behalf of her family.
First prize was won by Ed and Edna Braithwaite of
Sarnia. Fred Tilley and Donna Beuerman of Seaforth came
sixth.
There were prizes for every team entered and many
favourable comments were given by outside bowlers for
the well run tournament, the excellent greens, the lovely
prizes. and money which had been donated and the food.
An added feature this year was having hot dogs and
hamburgers available all day.
Drawmasters Neil, Fred and Lee kept the draw running
smoothly, and the ladies in the kitchen did a super job of
providing and serving complimentary food and coffee
during the day.
Carol Carter and Maureen Thompson of London bowled
for Ontario in the Canadian Championships last week and
won the gold medal, defeating British Columbia in the
final game 15-10 to win gold.
Monday evening men bowlers held a mini tournament
last Monday evening and winners were first, Keith Snell
and Phil Hoggarth; second, Doug Jones and John Walton;
third, Steve Hook and Murray McClure and consolation
Jack Muir and Bill Dyke.
In men's pairs at St. Marys last Tuesday, Jack Muir and
Erich Matzold won fourth.
Friday, August 26 will be barbecued hamburgers and hot
dogs for supper followed by a club tournament for all
members in a mixed jitney fun evening. Sign the sheet in
the clubhouse to bowl.
