Seaforth ball teams are 'A' champs and runners- up at year-end tourneys By Susan Hundertmark Expositor Editor Seaforth teams were A champions and A champion runners-up in minor baseball tournaments over the weekend. Seaforth's Pee Wee baseball team came first in the Tri -County Minor Softball's southern division on Saturday, beating out three other area teams at the Kirkton tournament. The Pee Wees beat Stanley Township on Friday night 17-12, beat Londesboro 19-15 and defeated Usborne Township 16-15 in extra innings for the A championship. "It was a come -from -behind victory and a real nail biter," says Pee Wee coach Jim Richards. "The kids never gave up and I'm so proud of them." The Pee Wees will go on to play the northern division champs at a later date. Seaforth's Mite baseball team were runners- up in the A championship Saturday after Scoreboard SHUFFLEBOARD Aug. 10 Women's high: Willy Hoornaert, Helen Scott and June Martene, 3 wins, Wilma Pennings 2 wins. Men's high: Hank Dorssers, Harry Pennings 5 wins each , Gerry Martene 4 wins. losing to Blyth 20-16. The Mites beat Winthrop 13-10 and Blyth 23-19 to qualify for the A championship game. "All the players played quite well," says Mites coach Steve Kropf. The Seaforth Boys' Squirt baseball team was put out of its year-end tournament over the weekend after moving into the A contest when the team beat Benmiller 11-10 in the Friday night game. Playing in a tournament of 10 teams, coach Rob Simpson said the Seaforth team was rated eighth after the regular season and beat Benmiller, which went into the tournament rated third in the division. The second game was Seaforth's last after losing against Lucknow 10-9. "The team had an awesome season and really improved. And, they played some good ball at the tournament," said Simpson. NOTICE TO OWNERS OF PIT BULLS WITHIN THE MUNICIPALITY OF CENTRAL HURON PIT BULLS TO BE REGISTERED Take notice that Ontario Legislation — Bill 132, the Public Safety Related to Dog Statute Law Amendment Act 2005 will come into force August 29, 2005 (with a 60 day transition period for owners to comply with leashing, muzzling and sterilization requirements). After that date, individuals (other than pounds and research facilities as defined in the Animal Research Act and owners of `grandfathered' pit bulls) will be prohibited from owning pit bulls. If you are currently an owner of a pit bull dog defined in the legislation as follows: "Pit bull includes, (a) a pit bull terrier, (b) a Staffordshire bull terrier, (c) an American Staffordshire terrier (d) an American pit bull terrier, (e) a dog that has an appearance and physical characteristics that are substantially similar to those dogs referred to in any of clauses (a) to (d). YOU MUST REGISTER your pit bull(s) with the Municipal Clerk on or before August 29th, 2005 during regular business hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in addition to all other licensing requirements of the Municipality of Central Huron. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the "grandfathered" status of the particular pit bull under the provincial legislation. An individual who contravenes any provision of this Act or the regulations or who contravenes an order made under this Act or the regulations is guilty of an offence and liable, on conviction, to a fine of not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or both.
