The sermon at Cavan United Church was titled "Crossing the Line." Greeters and collectors were Don and Maja Dodds. Everyone is welcome to our 9:30 a.m. Sunday services. Don and Maja Dodds returned from a week of relaxation in the Algonquin area. They had beautiful weather while there with no mosquitoes. They also recently returned from a motor trip to the east coast. It has been 44 years since they were last there and they noticed many changes, especially the fact that PEI is more commercialized than on their previous visit. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family of Glen McNichol who passed away. Glen and Dorothy farmed for many years on the 12th of McKillop. Mabel Patrick has returned home from hospital after a three-week stay in Stratford and Seaforth hospitals. Joyce Ribey has returned from University Hospital after having surgery there. Curtis to Brinke of Clinton, grandson of Bob and Ruth Campbell, plays Laurent in the play "The Thirteenth One" at the Blyth Festival Theatre. Marion Hunt has returned from visiting Marci and John and new baby daughter in Geneva, Switzerland and Caurchival, France. The family of Bob and Ruth Campbell held a get together at Doug and Vicki Campbell's to help them celebrate their anniversary. FOOD FOR THOUGHT Smiles are just like colds - they're catching. By Ruth Campbell Bethel Bible plans open house to display church's transformation The transformation of the historic Boshart Furniture Factory to the former Canadian Tire and now to Seaforth's Bethel Bible Church will, be on display during an open house Saturday, Aug. 27 from 2-4 p.m. The church relocated to Seaforth's Main Street six years ago and has generated "considerable interest" in the community, so a tour was proposed, says a press release from Bethel Bible. Bethel Bible Church has been a part of the Seaforth community since 1964, running its first Sunday School out of the Legion Hall, before expanding services and relocating to the Orange Hall. For many years, it operated out of an old schoolhouse on Water Street in Egmondville, and finally, the Seaforth high school, before arriving at its present location. The current building, with 24,000 square feet on three floors, was renovated almost entirely by volunteer labour, including men, women and children. It presently houses "The Rock," or youth drop-in centre, washrooms, work rooms and undesignated space on the ground level, a sanctuary, office, kitchen, washroom facilities, storage space and meeting rooms on the main floor and a nursery, washrooms, classrooms, Boys and Girls Club and "unclaimed" space on the top floor. The open house includes a free barbecue to all interested participants. For more information, call 527-0982.
