Winthrop residents travelling
across Canada during holidays
Recently, the neighbours from
Winthrop Line paid a surprise visit
to Bill and Anne Reid on the
occasion of their 30th anniversary.
A pleasant evening was spent visiting and playing cards.
Winners were ladies high score, Peggy Sloan; ladies low,
Margeretta Van Hertog; men's high, Terry Sloan and men's
low, Bill Reid.
Laurene Regele and Peggy Sloan presented them with a gift
on behalf of the neighbours after which lunch was served.
In July, Lorne and Bonnie -Glanville motored west. They
first visited Alex and Gail Glanville in Melfort, Sask. From
there they travelled to the Queen Charlotte Islands where they
visited their son Paul and his family.
After an enjoyable time with their two grandchildren, they
continued down British Columbia to Vancouver Island. Paul is
now stationed with the RCMP on the island. While on their
travels they fished for salmon and hiked.
Travelling east they stopped at many interesting spots
including Banff and Jasper. It was an exhilarating trip with
lots of gorgeous scenery but as Bonnie reported "good to get
home again."

For most of July, Brian and
Carol Ann Campbell travelled in
western parts of Canada and
Alaska. After flying to Edmonton
they boarded a bus to Fort St. John, Whitehorse and Dawson
City in the Yukon stopping at each one. They next travelled to
Fairbanks and Anchorage and then on to Whittier to catch a
cruise boat.
From here they headed south via the inside passage of
Prince William Sound. Stops were made at Sitka, Juneau,
Skagway and Ketchikan and on to Vancouver where they
boarded a plane for home.
Both reported they enjoyed the land trips best. They had lots
of sun and great weather for the whole trip.
Doug and Vicki Campbell, Natalie and Alaina spent a few
days in Collingwood.
Church services are again being held at Cavan at 9:30 a.m.
Sunday's sermon was titled "Saved by Doubt."
Greeters were Ruth Campbell and Rev. John. Collectors
were Glen and Marg McClure. Everyone is welcome to join
us on Sunday mornings.

Father Al back from Newfoundland
Sarah Schoonderwoerd along
with her friends Megan Bos, Teresa
Kemp, Jenny Joye and Shay Gross
- have returned home from an
enjoyable vacation in Calgary and Banff. Along with doing
much sightseeing, they also attended the Calgary Stampede.
Welcome back to Father Al Dufraimont after a holiday. He
(like Father Moe Charbonneau) was in Newfoundland. After
Dublin
being in touch, our Father Al
decided it was a good holiday but
he doesn't intend to move there.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Benny: My father's in the hospital.
Barney: What's wrong with him?
Benny: Nothing. He's a doctor.

Residents enjoy first campfire of year
Wow...what a heat wave! I
wouldn't be surprised if we broke a
record.
Due to the extreme temperatures
Seaforth 11anor Nursing; Home
last month a few outdoor programs at the Seaforth Manor
Nursing Home had to be cancelled and rescheduled to a later
date.
Thankfully we could sit indoors and enjoy the air
conditioning.
We started the month of July with a Canada Day
celebration. June and Ted of "Two Hearts, One Melody"
provided wonderful entertainment.
Residents have been busy playing some new games that
were kindly donated to the nursing home (a volleyball net and
Around the clock beanbag game).
We recently held our first campfire of the year and roasted
lots of marshmallows and wieners.
Mr. and Mrs. Gray supplied the
kindling to get the fire started!
It's that time of year again
and residents are starting to prepare crafts for the 2005 annual
Christmas Bazaar, as we are hoping to have a wide array of
ideas and gifts this year.
We are also looking for volunteers to assist in some
woodworking projects. If interested please contact the activity
coordinator at 527-0030 ext.6.
This month we are looking forward to going to Scrimgeours
Place on Aug. 11 to have a barbecue and wagon ride and to
Stratford on Aug. 31 to enjoy a picnic by the lake. On Aug. 23
some residents will be going to Blyth to view a play at the
Festival Theatre.
4-H club learns about sheep diseases
The fourth meeting for the South Huron 4-H Sheep club
was on July 11 at 7:30 p.m., located at Florence Pullen's
house.
To start off the meeting we played a fantastic half hour
game of soccer and said the 4-H pledge.
We then jumped into a conversation about sheep diseases,
what symptoms they show, preventive medication, and how
you treat the diseased sheep.
After that conversation we started talking about information

We then split up into two groups and one group would
judge eggs and the other group had to judge wheat, then when
the two groups were done judging their category they would
switch.
We then ended the meeting with our president Jessie
Leeming saying the 4-H moto and then everyone was about to
snack on cookies and juice.
