THE HURON EXPOSITOR, July 27, 2005 -13 Seaforth Legion to host open house as part of homecoming Seaforth Legion We have a lot of work going on at our Legion these past few weeks. Comrade Rick and Ed, our property chairmen, are overseeing the new floor installation for the tours of our Branch on Saturday, July 30 conducted by Comrade Frank. Be sure to come in and see all he has done over the years. We have also lost three of our veterans these past few weeks. We give our deepest sympathy to the families of Comrade Tom Wilbee, Comrade Herb Traviss and Comrade 'Rev. Paul Stephaniuk. Be sure to come out to all the events in the parking lot. It will be a fun time. At the going down of the sun we will remember them. by Donelda Barry Lawn bowling club hosts its July social The Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club held its July Social Tuesday, July 19 with 24 members present. Mary Finlayson welcomed all present and George Ribey offered the grace. Hostesses for the evening were Bea Stoll and Lucy Jones. Evening lawn bowlers winning two games were Donna Beuerman, Marian Smith and Mattie Murray. Card winners were high, Phil and Marie Thomas; lone hands, Vi Glanville and Betty Hulley; consolation, Edna Mitchell and Alvin McDonald (tied) and Isabelle Hunt. The next social will be Aug. 23 and hostesses will be Mary Finlayson and Lucy Jones. Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club President Rick informed members about a prize donation for the Anniversary Tournament being held at the Seaforth Greens Aug. 17 at 9:30 a.m. Carol Carter of the Seaforth Club and Shirley Schmidt of Goderich won the "B" flight in ladies pairs at the Western Ontario Bowling Association playoffs held at the Thistle Club in London last week. This is a week-long tournament held in London every year with ladies' and men's fours, pairs and singles. Bowling in men's pairs at Residents enjoy breakfast group Fun and Fitness started the week at Queensway as residents gathered on the deck outdoors for their thrice -weekly exercise session. Following the physical workout it was mental aerobics to stimulate the mind using various games. In the afternoon the Kippen United Church women were in with assistance and prizes for the bingo enthusiasts. Lori Burt RMT provided massage therapy to many grateful residents throughout the day. Tuesday morning, 8 Winthrop area residents do some travelling NL'inthro1► Several Winthrop -area residents have been doing some travelling recently. Cathy and Les Glanville accompanied by Doris and Lyle Hood travelled to a hunting camp on Iron Lake, three hours north of Sturgeon Falls. An enjoyable time was spent ATVing and swimming. Temperatures were as warm as here. Bill and Sharon McClure have returned from an educational trip to the British Isles. They flew in to England, spending one week each in England, Scotland and Ireland and left from Dublin. All countries had their interesting and beautiful spots but they liked Scotland the best with its quarry stone houses, sheep and green grass. Since Bill's family tree originated in Scotland on both sides they Igoked up both McClure and Callum names. They had an enjoyable visit with a Dave McClure who is a. farmer. They also attended an agricultural show. Both Bill and Sharon enjoyed staying at "Country and Farm" bed and breakfast houses. One Canadian dollar equals 2.2 British pounds. Gordon and Irma Pryce spent an enjoyable week camping at Shelter Valley. FOOD FOR THOUGHT If you get something for a song, watch out for the accompaniment. Queensway residents gathered around the oak dining table in their family dining room to participate in the breakfast group program. Bacon, eggs, toast and fruit with coffee and tea completed the menu. Volunteer Lillian Beer assisted with the program. The Rev. Lil Wilton of Caven Presbyterian Church in Exeter led worship Tuesday afternoon with Belva Fuss as volunteer organist. Barbecued hotdogs, hamburgs and salad were served to nursing home residents Wednesday afternoon outdoors in the courtyard. The sunshine along with a slight breeze contributed to a wonderful meal. Volunteer Lillian Beer provided assistance. Friday noon, the retirement residents dined in the courtyard and volunteer Betty Simmons assisted. Dietary Supervisor Maxine Curry demonstrated her expertise on the barbecue both days. Thursday morning, coffee and current events drew residents interested in keeping up with news in the daily and weekly papers. Father Francis was in to see Roman Catholic residents assisted by volunteer Mariette Bilcke and Lisa Stewart provided music therapy on Thursday. •A highlight of the week was our trip to Clinton Racetrack to enjoy the horse races and chicken barbecue fundraiser for the Huron County Alzheimer Society. Everyone had a great time cheering on their favourite horses. Lucknow a week ago saw Rick Wood and Dave Ducklow winning first prize and Jack Muir and Brett Finlayson winning fifth. In mixed pairs at Exeter Saturday, July 23. Rick Wood and Jean Shillington of Clinton won first prize.
