Mitchell and Lucas have been riding dirt bikes since the tender age of four, and have been racing competitively since age five. Says Mitchell, "My dad (Bruce) took me to the TransCan a couple of times and he just got me inspired, and then I got a bike." "And dad did too," adds Lucas, "and then I got a bike a year and a half after." They each own two bikes of their own, they say, and Bruce races competitively as well. He has qualified for the TransCan multiple times and will 'be there once again this year. Prior to racing competitively, the boys 'were able to ride around a practice track near their Walton -area home Although both boys enjoy By Ben Forrest Expositor Staff The success of two local motocross racers continued late in June as eight year-old Mitchell Godkin and six year-old brother Lucas Godkin earned first and third in their respective age classes at a provincial championship. Mitchell was named Canadian Motocross Racing Club Ontario Provincial Champion in the 50cc (age seven to eight class) while Lucas reached the podium in the 50cc class for kids aged four to six. This is the second year in a row Mitchell has earned a provincial title, while Lucas also reached the podium at the Ontario championships last year. Both boys are now preparing for the Walton TransCan, a national championship taking place Ryan, Phillips, Carter win lawn bowling tourney Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club The Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club held the annual Etue Insurance tournament at the greens on Wednesday, July 6 at 10 a.m. First place went to Lee Ryan, Tom Phillips and Carol Carter of Seaforth and second was Jack and Marie Muir and Marg Ungarian, also from the home club. Readers of the Expositor may remember that Mitchell and Lucas raced last year in the same age class. Lucas finished 16th at the nationals last year, while Mitchell finished second overall. Mitchell is again aiming for a podium finish and Lucas hopes to crack the top ten. The competition in Walton will be tough, however. "You're getting the top riders from all the different...regions across the country," Katrin says. Regardless, the Godkins know they won't have to travel far for the TransCan. "It's the largest Canadian motocross event every year, and it's right in our back yard," Katrin says. Both Mitchell and Lucas would like to become pro motocross racers, but failing that, they wouldn't mind joining another profession that involves high speeds and working at high altitude. Asked what he would like to be if racing doesn't work out, Mitchell answers, "I would say an astronaut." Lucas gave the same answer. Lucas will be going into Grade 2 next year at Seaforth Public School, while Mitchell will enter Grade 3. LAWN QUESTIONS? Organic Programs 4611 Available .41 Nt Da It 1.)
