Graduating Grade 8
is like receiving
a Golden Globe award
by Alexander Cardno
Two mice fell into a cup of cream. One
mouse gives up all hope of living, does
nothing, and drowns. The other mouse
makes a decision to do what he can, moves
his legs and swims about the cream
enabling him to turn the cream into butter.
He is then able to climb out of the cup and
go on with his life. This story teaches us
that we can achieve anything that we set
our minds to when faced with a problem.
Fellow graduates, family, friends,
teachers, and honoured guests. It has been a
long road, full of bumps, twists and turns,
but we've finally made it! We started out as
little children clenching onto our parents'
side and have grown into mature ypung
adults.
Along the way we have made mistakes
but have also achieved success. Class trips
to Waterloo University and Camp Celtic
taught us virtues such as perseverance and
self-confidence.
Not all of us have been a part of Seaforth
Public School from the beginning. We
welcomed Walton Public School in the
fourth grade and have made valuable
friends as a result of this amalgamation.
Sadly we have also lost some of our
closest friends. We remember Rob Graham
whose laugh could he heard across the
playground and who was a friend to many.
Rob tragically passed away in a car
accident in the sixth grade.
This year's Grade 8 graduation theme is
the Hollywotxi Grammys. This is actually a
very appropriate theme for us.
Today is the day that all of our hard work
and perseverance pays off. Our teachers and
families have moulded us into what we are
today.
It is as though we are actors in a movie
and our teachers and families have been the
directors and producers of our lives. We
have all been nominated for a golden globe
award. Not one but all have received the
award.
We are the mice who worked to
accomplish his goals. We have faced our
difficulties and have worked and worked at
them to the point of accomplishing that
which we desired. We have achieved
something by getting this far standing here
and accepting our hard earned Grade 8
diploma.
I'm sure that the past 10 years don't seem
so special now, but we'll look back on them
as the glory years. Had it not been for those
who supported us and expected nothing but
the best from us we would not be the
graduates we are today.
If it weren't for our teachers from
Kindergarten to Grade 8 going to school
wouldn't be the same. They helped us from
coaching teams to preparing us for the
chess tournament to helping us with the
yearbook.
We can't forget the lady who helped us
rain or shine. She knew each and everyone
of us by name and made sure we arrived at
school safely. Thank you Mary.
We are only as bright as those who have
taught us. We thank you all for loving us,
pushing us and believing in us.

I'll always remember
my Grade 8 classmates
by Gwynne Burgess
The word "valedictorian" comes from the
Latin root "vale" meaning: goodbye or
farewell. Well, my friends, I give you my
farewell speech on behalf of the graduating
class.
Somehow, between playing with Barbies
and Tonka Toys, between Sailor Moon role
playing and making awesome forts,
between folk dancing and C'est Le Rock de
Dinosaur, we managed to make it here
tonight. Congratulations, fellow graduates.
There are many things I will remember
about my elementary school career - the
chill in the computer lab, the mould in the
back of .Mr. L's classroom, and Mrs.
Reynolds' enthusiasm about getting up and
down the stairs - but mostly, I will
remember my classmates.
I remember Justin for being on the top of
all the lists - academics or sports - and not
just because he is first alphabetically.
And there's Megan, who's got enough
competitive edge to go on to take the
athletic world by storm. I'll always
remember Hillary for being one of two
things: either totally hyperactive, or totally
cheerful.
And whenever you're in the hallways,
Lukas is always the first to 'greet you or
other people. Terry is the tall and friendly
guy we all love. I know Alex will never
cease to perform hilarious imitations off
television and movies that crack everyone
up.
I will never forget Christina's "girl
power" motives to prove that she can do a
lot of stuff way better than all the boys.
Mike is always cracking hilarious jokes.
And Jeffman, you're still my favourite
superhero/rock star combo.
And who will ever forget Darin "Double
Dose" Dick, who's always got a rhyme up
his sleeve. Scott is the quiet, but funny,
reality -show enthusiast.
And who could forget Shawna's signature
smile that she flashes nearly all the time.
David isn't full of complications and is
always willing to give others a helping
hand. I'll never forget Sarah's laugh as
contagious as a cold.
Derek's always full of laughs and walks
around with a smile on his face. Tanya is
still the same caring person she's always
been since the day I met her. I'll never
forget Kyle's enthusiasm towards anything
and everything, even if it is trying to tick
Mrs. Spillane off.
Barb's willingness to try new things will
forever impress me. Tyler H. has got some
pretty sweet computer hacking skills and
will drum as much as his heart desires.
Daring, Exciting, Amazing and Nutty -
that's D.E.A.N. for you.
Jennie is continually willing to help
anyone when they need it. And I can never
forget Brittany's signature James Bond
moves. I'm pretty sure that there have only
been a few rare moments where I didn't see
Matt K. with a basketball. which he rocks
at.
Brad proves the old saying "blondes have
more fun." And then there's Tyler L. who
can rarely keep a joke quiet and is always
making people laugh during class.
And there's Tylor M. otherwise known as
Mario, who, like one of the Super Mario
Brothers, never gives up trying until he
accomplishes what he wants to accomplish.
Jade could heat any one of us in any sport
