St. James grads have unforgettable year in Grade 8
by Ali Kramers
and Jesse Flanagan
On behalf of the graduating
class of 2005, we introduce
ourselves as valedictorians.
Our last year here has been
fun and exciting, and so have
the past 10 years here at St.
James School.
In Kindergarten we were
split into two classes. Some
favourites were the blocks
and having our own
washrooms. There were
interesting hair styles that
year including Cody's mullet.
Most of our class was
together for the first time in
Grade J, some were put into
a 1/2 split class. We learned
about marshmallow's warm
fuzzies and cold prickles. We
also celebrated reading with
Mario parties.
Our class was reunited in
Grade 2 for our year -end -trip
to Wawanosh Conservation
Area where we went in the
creek and caught bugs.
In Grade 3 we consumed
tons of Wuerthers provided

as prizes by Mrs. McClure, as
well as chocolate bars for
winning problem of the
week. We also had fun
playing spelling bingo on
Thursdays.
Throughout Grade 4 we
tried to solve the mystery of
the computer game Myst. At
the end of the year we had
fun in Grand Bend at the
Pinery where we made sand
sculptures and found
minerals.
We remember. singing
songs in Grade 5. Our pet
gerbil Skippy got lost and
was eventually found in the
Grade 1 room. On our year
end trip we went to Ontario
Place and it poured.
Grade 6 was the first time
we had Mr. Chisholm. Due to
the SARS outbreak, we
couldn't go to Toronto for
our year end trip, so instead
we went to the IMAX and
Eastpark in London.
The next year, in Grade 7
we enjoyed St. James
biannual operetta which was
called "At the Hop."
Everyone participated
whether cast, crew, sets,
choir, costumes or backstage.
We had two year end trips,
both locally.
This year, Grade 8, was an
important year for all of us.
We prepared for confirmation
with a retreat in Dublin. In
November we celebrated the
sacramentwith a gorgeous
mass. We became good
friends with our Kindergarten
buddies.
After March break Mr.
Chisholm took a leave of
absence and we welcomed
Miss O'Connor to our class
for the rest of the year. Most
of the guys participated in a
fun two -pitch tournament.
Track and Field was very hot,
but nevertheless many people
from our class moved on to
the meet in Goderich. The
rest of us organized activities
for an enjoyable Play Day.
On June 21, we boarded a
Gino's bus for our year end
trip to' Quebec City. We
stayed at a residence of Laval
University in Ste. Foy. We
visited museums, took a tour
of Old Quebec and went
swimming in the university
pool. Also we shopped for
souvenirs, danced on a cruise
ship with around 900 other
students, and viewed the
amazing Basilica of Ste.
Anne. It was an incredible
and unforgettable year and
school end trip. Our Grade 8
year has been a memorable
one, filled with fun, friends
and laughter.
To tell you a little about
our class, we went around
and asked each person what
animal they liked the hest or
related to.
These are their answers -
Hailey Arts would be a lemur
because she likes to hop and
party. Bridget Cronin is a
very good swimmer and so
she would he a dolphin. Nick
Debrusk would be an ostrich
because he likes their long
