Motocross action in Walton hotter than the weather
The incredible heat and humidity
this past weekend was "gruelling"
but did not seem to slow down the
motocross action in Walton.
"The weather was so hot and
some people, even the flag people,
had some trouble dealing with it,"
said Chris Lee, of Walton
Motocross.
Over 3500 racers and spectators
endured the hot weather for the
two-day event that saw some fast
and furious racing by a national
record of riders.
Over the two days, the event
hosted 998 rider entries in 33
different race classes from parts of
Quebec, Michigan, Ohio and New
York.
Ontario riders came from as far as
Timmins to the north, Windsor to
the south-west and Ottawa to the
east.
In one class, organizers had to
run three qualifying heats for the
120 riders who came to race.
The weekend racing was part of
the Amateur National Qualifier
Series where racers were competing
for eligibility for the Grand
National Races that are to be held in
Walton Aug. 16-21.
The event was also round five (of
seven) of the Motovan.com Ontario
Provincial Championship race
series, where battles for provincial
championships are running strong.
