Marlen Vincent, a member of the Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation and the Seaforth Harmony Kings, applied for and received a grant from the Harmonize For Speech Foundation, the provin- cial barbershop singers' organization of which the Harmony Kings is a member. Vincent wanted the local hospital to benefit and given that the motto for the barbershop singers is "We sing so that they can speak", the preschool speech and language services was a logical recipient. Mary Cardinal, both site adminis- trator at Seaforth hospital and pro- gram director of the Complex Continuing Care and Rehabilitation Services for the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, welcomed the donation. "These additional resources will enhance existing services and support access for parents seeking support for their children," she said. Four years ago their donation allowed us to produce the Talk as You Grow growth chart which helps par- ents ensure their children's communi- cation development is on track," she said. The funds will provide a significant„ boost in testing and therapy materials for the Speech Language Pathologist and Communicative Disorders Assistant who provide service to the Seaforth area. Small Talk focuses on prevention, identification and treatment of chil- dren who are at risk for or demon- strating a speech and language delay. Funded by the provincial government and administered by the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, the program provides services across both coun- ties.
