Brucefield students set for regionals

Huron Centennial Public
School in Brucefield held its
annual junior and senior track
and field meet on May 24-25.
Students in grades 4-8
participated in a variety of
events including high jump,
long jump, shot put, ball
throw and a wide range of
running events.
Shannen Murray, Heather
Herd and Amber Brodie were
among the top achievers in
the pee wee girls' category,
composed mainly of Grade 4
and 5 students. Murray won
six events and will head to a
regional meet, to be held June
6 in Seaforth.
The other two are eligible
for the meet as well, along
with all other first and
second -place finishers.
Magnus Claussen and
Cody McIntyre were the top
winners in the pee wee boys'
division, — Claussen finished
first in six events while
McIntyre captured top
honours in the 400 and 800 m
races.
Also moving on to the
regional meet are Sean
deGroot, Christopher Beeler,
Dylan Lambert and Jacob
McDougall.
Results in the intermediate
category were more varied,
with 13 different students
moving on to the Seaforth
meet. Deanna Love, Lauren
Heimrich and Stephanie
Faulds finished first or second
in most events, but were shut
out of the top two spots in the
800m event, which found
Janelle Dalrymple first to
cross the finish line and Amy
Bicknell just behind her.

heat ahead of Josh Farquhar and Quaid Preszcator. Wild went on to finish second in the
100metre final, while taking first in the 200 metre and the standing long jump. He also
won a second in the 400 metre event and a third in the 800 metre.

Molly Kinsman won three
events in the girls' category,
with Miranda Postill taking
high jump and running long
jump. A total of 10 girls'
qualified to move on.
Cody Bunn dominated the
senior boys' running events,
winning all four races as well
as the shot put competition.

Eagles take home
WOSSAA gold

The Eagles senior boys'
rugby team made history as
the first team in 18 years to
thwart the defending Western
Ontario Secondary School
Athletics Association
(WOSSAA) gold medallists
and rugby champions,
Stratford Northwestern
Secondary School.
Coach Glen Ditner said he
was doing great after the team
overpowered the rival team,
with a phenomenial score of
31-5.
Clinton's St. Annes
Secondary School rugby team
has been on fire since claiming
the Huron -Perth regional
championships in Clinton last
month.
The win qualified the team
for the playoffs with an
undefeated season, after
beating South Huron District
High School of Exeter and the
Stratford Northwestern
Huskies.
Great support in all rucks,
incessant attacking by the
forwards, good ball movement
and running by the backs
created a true team effort and
a recipe for the squad's
success.
While at WOSSAA
playdowns in Stratford, the
Eagles faced Huron Park
Secondary School of
Woodstock, in the first game.
Patrick Miltenburg, Mike
Vaechter and Luke Veens
scored trys and Corey Arbour,
kicked a conversion, for the
teams 17-0 victory.
In the gold medal game
against Stratford
Northwestern, trys were
scored by Miltenburg, Ryan
Marshall, Chris Hogervorst
and Rhys Plant (two), while
Arbour kicked three
conversions for the win.
With the win, the Eagles
qualifyfor Ontario Federation
of Secondary Schools Athletic
Association A/AA playdowns
in Belleville June 6-8.

Kippen shooters
win in St. Thomas
Kippen Gun Club
Victoria day weekend saw
several area shooters from
the Kippen Gun Club travel
to St. Thomas, Ontario for a
three-day shoot at St.
Thomas Gun Club.
Two hundred and ten
participants entered
Saturday's 200-16 yard event
competing for flats of shells
sponsored by Federal
ammunition.
Jordon Ritchie captured
sub junior blasting 185
targets and winning two flats
of shells.
Wayne Peachey broke 190
targets to capture B class
runner-up and three flats of
shells.
On Sunday, 100 handicap
and 100 doubles were thrown
to make up the program.
Jordon Ritchie broke 88 in
the handicap for Sub Junior
and won two flats of shells.
Mark Ramsey hroke 93
from thc 23 yard line and
won six flats of shells.
Chuck Krieger broke 90
from 23 yards to gain fourth
and two flats of shells.
In thc doubles event,
Jordon Ritchie was
victorious once again in sub
junior with an 86 to gain
more flats of shells.
Brittany Caldwell smashed
87 to take the ladies' crown
and one flat of shells.
Jamie Caldwell broke 93
for B class and won four flats
of shells.
Brad Mann took C class
doubles breaking on 88 and
capturing four flats.
Gord Robinson was A
class winner blasting 89 of
his 100. He also won four
flats.

boys finished well enough to

The finish of the senior
girls' 400m race was no
doubt a close one, as Chelsey
Bagot and Caelyn Deweerd
tied for first place.
Deweerd also bested the
competition in high jump and
the 100m and 800m races,
and Bagot finished first or
second in three other events.
Seven other girls won the
right to represent the school
in Seaforth.

Besides getting a good
physical workout, Wild says
he enjoys the two-day
competition because it gives
him a good opportunity to
learn more about
sportsmanship, hard work and
the satisfaction of doing your
best.

during the all -day event.
