Two St. Anne's rugby teams
win gold at Huron -Perth match
It was a golden week for
students at St. Anne's
Catholic Secondary School,
as two of three rugby teams
claimed Huron -Perth gold.
The Eagles hosted and
dominated the May 19 and 20
Huron -Perth championships.
Entering the tournament with
a first place regular season
ranking, -the senior boys' and
girls' teams emerged
undefeated.
Taking on South Huron in
Thursday's first semi-final
game, the senior Eagles won
5-0, earning them a spot in
the gold medal match against
Stratford Northwestern.
St. Anne's got off to a quick
start with a diving try just a
few moments into the match.
After some hard hitting by
both teams, the Eagles took a
10-0 lead. A third try in the
second half brought the final
score to 15-0, seizing the gold
medal.
Both teams qualified for the
Western Ontario Secondary
School Athletic Association
(WOSSAA) championships
in Stratford on May 26.
Friday saw the girls' team
defeat St. Mike's 22-7 in an
exciting, hard foughtfinal
game after beating Stratford
Northwestern in the semi-
finals.
The girls will go on to the
Ontario Federation of Schools
Athletic Association
(OFSAA) tournament in
Toronto June 6-8.
The junior boys' team also
played in the Huron -Perth
tourney, but fell short of a top
three placing after losing to
South Huron and Mitchell.
