42. Deaths
BOYD, Bessie: On Friday, May 13,
2005, Elizabeth "Bessie" (McEwen)
Boyd of Seaforth and Zolfo Springs,
Florida, in her 94th year. Beloved
wife of the late Charles Boyd
(1989). Dear mother of Ruth and
Ross Fisher, Goderich, Beth and
Joe Walton, Barrie, and Barbara
and Ted Bergey, Mississauga.
Grandmother of six grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren. Also
survived by sisters Jean McEwen
and Marjorie Broadfoot and hus-
band John. Predeceased by her
parents Alexander and Minnie
(Weir) McEwen and sisters Marion
Laramie and Eleanor Runnalls.
After graduation from Clinton
Collegiate Institute, Bessie trained
as a nurse at Victoria Hospital in
London. She married Charlie Boyd
in 1934, and together they farmed
on the 12th line of McKillop
Township until their retirement. They
farmed well and they relaxed in
style. From trailers to motor homes,
they ranged widely over North
America together. Later Bessie
enjoyed the British Isles with family.
When Bessie moved to Seaforth,
she enjoyed many senior activities,
especially card playing, and extend-
ed her wide circle of friends. Bessie
found great pleasure in gardening,
baking, travelling and fishing. She
kept a thorough diary ever since her
training days as a nurse, and was
an avid reader. She used her skills
as a letter writer to keep in touch
with friends and family. Her greatest
joy was expressed in caring for her
family. She was proud to be a life-
time member of the United Church
Women and was active originally in
Bethel Church and later in Cavan
United Church in Winthrop. For 49
years she has wintered in Florida
where they built a second life sur-
rounded by lifelong caring friends.
There she attended the First United
Methodist Church in Wauchula.
There were special celebrations for
their fiftieth wedding anniversary
and her 90th birthday within the
southern church community. As a
member of the Ada Parker Circle
she contributed her time and tal-
ents to assist the elder and chal-
lenged members of Hardee County.
Music has always been an impor-
tant element for the entire family,
and Bessie was a member of the
Wauchula Wednesday Musicale
which promoted music appreciation
and provided scholarship support
for talented local students. Friends
will be received at the Whitney-
Ribey Funeral Home, 87 Goderich
Street West, Seaforth on
Wednesday (today) from 3-5 and 7-
9 p.m. where the funeral service will
be held on Thursday, May 19 at 2:00
p.m. Mr. Bruce Whitmore will offici-
ate. Pallbearers will be Paul Fisher,
Chuck 'Andy' Walton, Brice Wesingi,
David Gunn, Merton Hackwell and
Bob Broadfoot. Honourary pallbear-
ers will be Dr. Elver Hodges, Dr.
Dick Gray, Nyle 'Sonny' Elmer and
John Broadfoot. Flower bearers will
be Ana Fisher, Sharon Bergey and
Heather Kelso. Interment
Maitlandbank Cemetery, Seaforth.
Memorial donations to Cavan
United Church, Winthrop, First
United Methodist Church,
Wauchula, Florida, Heart and
Stroke Foundation or Canadian
Cancer Society would be appreciat-
ed as expressions of sympathy.

CULLIGAN: In memory of a loving
son and brother, Patrick, who left us
suddenly 2 years ago, May 23,
2003.
This day is remembered
And quietly kept,
No words are needed,
We shall never forget.
Our lives go on without you,
But nothing is the same,
All we have left are special memo-
ries,
And your picture in a frame.
We will always love and miss you.
- Forever remembered, love your
family.
As time goes on without you,
And the days turn into years,
They hold a million memories,
And a thousand silent tears.
To us you were so special,
What more is there to say,
Except to wish with all our hearts,
That you were here today.
- Always loved and forever missed,
Mom 46-20xlcc
TEATERO, Leo James: Died May
20, 1993. In memory of my husband
and best friend.
Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible
comfort of feeling safe with a per-
son,
Having neither to weigh thoughts,
nor measure words,
But to pour them all out, just as they
are,
Chaff and grain together, knowing
that a faithful hand will take and sift
them,
Keep what is worth keeping and
then, with a breath of kindness blow
the rest away.
Always remembered. To my Leo,
Frances Teatero 46-20-1
MCNICHOL: In loving memory of a
dear husband, dad, grandfather and
great grandfather, Ralph McNichol
who passed away 5 years ago, May
23rd, 2000.
Five years since that sad day,
The one we loved was called away.
God took him home, it was His will,
But in our hearts he liveth still.

High school
boundaries
changing
to help
former
SDHS
students
By Stew Slater
Special to the Expositor
Lost in the shuffle of two
successive attempts to close
the former Seaforth District
High School (SDHS), nine
students from Wingham's
F.E. Madill Secondary
School should soon no
longer need to apply for offi-
cial "border -crossing" status
from the Avon Maitland
District School Board.
At a regular meeting
Tuesday, May 10, trustees
were given notice of a pro-
posal to adjust attendance
boundaries at Madill,
Mitchell District High
School (MDHS) and Central
Huron Secondary School in
Clinton.
They'll vote on the. pro-
posal in late May, but all
indications suggest it will
receive full support.
The changes address the
fact that certain outlying
areas of the former SDHS
attendance boundary -- all of
which was transferred to
Central Huron upon closure
in 2003 -- actually lie much
closer to either Madill or
MDHS.
Under the proposal, stu-
dents living in a portion of
Grey ward southeast of
Brussels will be expected to
attend Madill, while the
extreme western reaches of
Hibbert ward will become
associated strictly with
MDHS instead of a shared
arrangement between MDHS
and Central Huron.
The changes were actually
approved as part of an earlier
attempt to close SDHS in
2000.
But after a legal challenge
successfully halted that
attempt, authors of the sub-
sequent closure process
failed to include them,
"All six identified families
chose to border cross to F.E,
Madill when the original
motion was rescinded,"
explains a report from Avon
Maitland staff, delivered to
trustees for the May 10 meet-
ing.
They are pleased that the
boundaries arc being
reviewed and possibly
changed as the change would
eliminate thc need for them
to apply each year for border
crossing."
One students, whose sib-
ling attends Madill, has cho-
sen to attend Central Huron.
If the proposals arc
approved, that student will
he the only one in thc area
requesting border -crossing
status.
In Hibbert, one family cur-
rently attends Central Huron,
hut they are former residents
of Seaforth who moved into
the ward within the last two
years.
