Atom girls get bronze at provincials
By Susan Hundertmark
Expositor Editor
Even though many of the
team members have only
played hockey for one year,
the Seaforth atom girls are
provincial bronze medallists.
The team of nine and 10 -
year -old girls from Seaforth,
Clinton and Brucefield won
four out of six games in a
Toronto tournament to come
third in the province.
"There was some really
tough competition and low
scoring games but the girls
worked really hard all season
and got rewarded with a
medal," says coach Kevin
Melady.
The atom girls came
second in their regular season
and placed first in provincial
playdowns to qualify for the
playoffs over the weekend.
During the provincial
tournament, Seaforth beat
Belleville 2-0, tied with
Lambeth 1-1, beat Mount
Forest 3-0, beat Beaver
Valley 5-1 in the quarter
finals, lost to Clearview 2-0
in the semi-finals and won
the bronze medal game 2-1
against Barrie.
Goal scorers throughout
the tournament included
Shannen Murray, Jennifer
Baer, Heather Heard, Nicole
Correspondence
Marriage, Shannon O'Reilly
and Hailey McIntyre. Shut-
outs were made by goalie
Stephanie Sluys.
Trainer Liz Scott says the
team played very well
together.
"Literally half of these kids
have never played together
before. But, they did play
ringette and came with
elevated skating skills and
good team ethics," she says.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Horse sense is what keeps
horses from betting on
people.
Seaforth Manor residents enjoy the nice
weather and have ice cream on patios
Residents of Seaforth
Manor Retirement Home
have been enjoying the nice
weather on our patios these
days. We even had an ice
cream afternoon on April 11.
The weather has been
great, the flowers are
blooming and the birds are
building their nests. We enjoy
watching the flowers grow in
our gardens.
We look forward to our
annual perennial sale on June
4, with the community yard
sale.
The Huron Strings continue
to keep our attention when
they came to play for us this
month. Many residents were
up dancing and some were
singing. The music is exactly
what we like to hear. We look
forward to having them come
hack again in July.
Tim Horton's coffee break
continues to be a big hit every
month. Marjorie, Sam and
Boyd went for the drive to
Clinton to pick up the donuts
and coffee. It was a beautiful
drive and we enjoyed the
treats when we got home.
Crafts are still ongoing
with our woodworking group.
Boyd, Gerald, Ross, Bev,
Seaforth Manor
Mary R and others are
making crafts for the fall
bazaar. The room gets pretty
dusty with the sanding that
they do however, it's fun just
the same.
Our monthly diner's club
was a huge success. We
enjoyed having 10 guests
from the community for
dinner. Afterwards, we had
Leslie Richards play music
for us. Some of us danced
and some of us sang.
We held some door prize
draws as well. The winners
were Bun Armstrong, Boyd
Driscoll, Leslie Richards and
Harold Reibeling. It was
Harold's birthday so it was
nice to have him receive a gift
and we also sang to him. It
was a great evening.
The Swinging Seniors
entertained for us as well this
month. Alice Knight, Sam
Duckworth and Dodie Foster
were a few that were dancing
to the music. We look
forward to this group coming
in every month.

came to play for us as well.
The music was a real treat, as
we have not had them here
before. Alice Knight was
dancing again! She loves
music.
Bev Johnston especially
enjoyed the music because
the Lobb family has been
great friends of hers for years.
The music they supplied was
country, gospel and just plain
good music. The instruments
consisted of the bass fiddle
and guitars. They are all very
musical as they all sing.
