Huizinga - Dick
On Saturday, February 19, 2005, Ruthanne Huizinga.
daughter of Brenda and the late Jerry Huizinga, and
Kevin Dick, son of Reg and Louise Dick. were united
in marriage. The maid of honour was Ruthanne's
sister Hanna. The bndesmaids were Pauline, Martha
and Mary, all sisters of the bride Flowergirls were
cousins of the bride. Groomsmen were Joe Kenny,
cousin of the groom, jell Dick, brother of the groom.
and Wes and Sam Huizinga, brothefs of the bride.
They honeymooned on a cruise ship to sights in the
Caribbean Ruthanne and Kevin now reside in
London

who talks about maintaining a herb garden

Horticultural Society met
April 13 at Northside United
.Church.
Heather McLean
introduced the speaker,
Judie Glen, of Listowel who
spoke on herbs. She advised
planting a small garden near
your back door, using peat
moss and rabbit manure
since it does not burn. She
and her two daughters have
fun in their garden, making
a sunflower house covered
with morning glory and
making a "lady in a boat"
out of Bleeding Heart.
She recommended
companion planting, basil

employees
for their
30 years
of service

Queensway's Retirement
Residence Men's Club held
an information night about
the Goderich Salt Mine
Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m.
Presenters Grant
McGregor and Mark Consitt
showed a video and brought
many interesting artifacts
associated with the salt
mine. Admission to this
event was an item for the
Exeter Food Bank. The
Men's Club was pleased to
have several boxes of
canned and non-perishable
items for pick up by the
food bank.
The grand finale of the
evening happened when two
employees were honoured at
Quecnswa'y Nursing and
Retirement Residence for 30
years of service. Elaine
Stebbins RPN works in
Queensway's nursing
department and Sandra
Seaforth and District I lortit•ulturul Societe
near peppers and tomatoes,
garlic near roses, dill with
cabbage and oregano with
green beans.
Don't pick herbs before
10 a.m. as the dew on the
leaves causes black spots.
Dry in a single layer on a
paper towel, never a metal
surface. They can be dried
in a 100 degree oven. Store
in dark, coloured jars for up
to eight months.
Peg DeJong thanked the
speaker.
Janny Streutker took the
»air, welcomed everyone
and told of her memory
garden. Her garden has
plants from all her friends.
Bea Stoll read the minutes
of the March meeting and
Dilys Finnigan gave the
treasurer's report.
Peg DeJong said the
hanging baskets have been
planted and the boxes will
be ready at the end of April.
Ruth Smith and Janny
Streutker had attended a
workshop in Dorchester
April 9. The speaker was
from Napanee and spoke on
"volunteering."
Ruth found her very
interesting and gave many
hints for our own society.
Janny thanked Ruth for her
report.
Nancy Kale reminded us
of the Bake and Plant Sale
on May 7.
Ken Papple and Helen
McNaughton offered to look
after a flower bed at the
front of the church.
Heather McLean reported
on a bus trip July 13 to
Cullen Gardens.
The meeting was
adjourned and lunch was
served by Astrid
Guntensperger and Vivienne
Newnham.
30 Hour Famine
The youth group at First Presbyterian Church in Seaforth raised $1,000 for the
Canadian Foodgrains Bank during 30 -hour famine over the weekend. The group
includes in front from left, Sky Hendrickson, Andrea Rowntree, Christine Robinson,
Miranda Postill, Alison Rowntree, Dylan Cronin and Bridget Cronin, in the middle row,
Jim Bannerman, Michelle Powell, Grant Bolton and Dale Ann McKichan and in the
back row, Jim Murray, Adam McKichan, Kyle Robinson, Matt Bolton and Rev. Henry
Huberts.

Both women have shown
commitment and dedication
to the residents of
Queensway over the years
and have seen and adapted
to many changes in Long
Term Care.

his violin, when they
entertained at Friendship
Friday, in the Retirement
Residence Lounge Friday,
April 15. Volunteer Edna
Dietz was on hand to help
serve refreshments.
Pastor Elly Bergen of
Varna and Goshen United
Churches led worship at
Queensway Tuesday, April
12 with Belva Fuss as
volunteer pianist. We
appreciated Elly's service
especially as she delivered it
on short notice when the
scheduled minister was ill.
Pastor Elly provides
volunteer pastoral care at
Queensway each Tuesday to
residents desiring it.
Residents benefitted from
massage with Lori Burt
RMT on Monday and music
with trained Music
Therapist Lisa Stewart on
Friday.
Throughout the week,
bingo, exercises, games and
manicures kept residents
busy.

medical research into
respiratory disease.
