Volunteer appreciation party held at Queensway
The highlight of the week
at Queensway Nursing and
Retirement Home in Hensall
was the volunteer
appreciation party held
Sunday, April 10 with the
entertainment and message
by Bob Heywood.
Volunteers contribute
numerous hours of quality
time to the residents of
Queensway through friendly
visits, bingos, church
services, games, choir,
musical entertainment, walks,
baking group, manicures,
parties, pet therapy and much
more.
Queensway
The dedication and talent
shared by the many
volunteers that enter
Queensway is incalculable.
Hensall Presbyterian
women provided assistance
and prizes at bingo Monday
afternoon and will do so each
, Monday afternoon in April.
Rev. Jim Vallenga of
Exeter Bethel Reform Church
led worship Tuesday
afternoon with Belva Fuss as
volunteer pianist.
Queensway's choir was.
invited to sing at the Clinton
Dining for Seniors held at the
Betty Cardno Centre
Wednesday, April 6. They
travelled by mobility bus to
Clinton and enjoyed a
delicious meal before their
scheduled performance.
Volunteer Sharon Carter

some pampering in the
sunroom when she gave
handsoaks and manicures
throughout the afternoon on
Friday.

Seaforth teen, Moore, named one of six Ontario 4-H ambassadors
At 4-H Ontario's
Conference and Annual
Meeting,, Nicole Moore, of
Seaforth, an active member
of the Huron County 4-H
Association, was selected to
represent the 4-H program
for the upcoming year as a
4-H Ontario ambassador.
From 20 contestants, six
senior 4-H members were
selected to take the
communication skills and
self-confidence that they
developed in 4-H to
promote the program.
The other 2005 4-H
Ontario Ambassadors are:
Steve Holtz, of Waterloo;
Laura Hutton, of Perth; Jeff
McCallum, of Elgin;
Michelle Pfister, of Perth;
and Stephanie Snyder, of
Waterloo.
"Young people talking to
their peers and the
community about the
positive impact of the 4-H
program on their lives, is
the best promotion for the
4-H program," said Darlene
Smith, 4-H Ontario
Program Assistant.
"The new Ambassador
4-H Club
program is a win-win for
everyone. The young
people involved get to
demonstrate the skills that
4-H has provided them and
the 4-H program gets six
excellent advertisements of
what 4-H is all about."
Nicole Moore has
completed 36 projects
during her eight years as a
4-H member. The variety
of clubs she has been
involved with range from
maple syrup to
scrapbooking and
chinchillas to sheep.
Nicole is very active in
many county and regional
4-H activities, including
representing Huron County
at the provincial "Go for the
Gold" competition.
"4-H has helped me
become a more outgoing,
confident and informed
person. I have developed
numerous leadership skills,"
said Moore. "It is an
unbelievable program and I
would not be the person I
am today without 4-H."
In 2005, the Ontario 4-H
program will be celebrating
its 90th anniversary.
Since 1915, hundreds of
thousands of young people
have participated in this
unique youth organization
that combines "hands-on"
education with a fun and
safe learning environment.
Through the dedication of
more than 1,500 volunteers,
members participate in a
variety of projects, ranging
from livestock to life skills
to drama and social
recreation. 4-H
Ontario is dedicated to the
personal growth of young
people by developing their
self-confidence and
teaching them skills in
leadership, public speaking
and team building.
