Seaforth residents will be invited to apply to fill vacancies on
the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance and on the Seaforth Local
Advisory Committee (LAC) during the month of April.
"We will have a Seaforth vacancy on the board and LAC
vacancies and will be advertising to fill them during mid-April.
The nominations will close the first week of May," Alliance
CEO Andrew Williams told the LAC last Tuesday.
Bob Broadfoot is stepping down from the Alliance board
after serving for two years on the Alliance board and several
years on the Seaforth hospital board before the Alliance
formed.
Andrews also presented a report on the proposed committee
terms for current members of the Seaforth LAC and the
Alliance agreement language on LACs.
In Seaforth, LAC member Mike Hak is stepping down this
June.
Of the five remaining members, Sheila Richards, Arend
Streutker and Tony Vandenhengel have a remaining two years

Community Hospital site
administrator Mary Cardinal
told the Seaforth Local
Advisory Committee (LAC)
last Tuesday.
"They couldn't use water
for anything for several days
in Stratford so we supported
them during the chemical
spill," said Cardinal.
"The staff were great. They
came in after their shifts and
we were able to meet the
needs from Monday to
Wednesday," she said.
Medical equipment and
surgical scopes were cleaned
and sterilized in Seaforth and
Clinton while hospital
laundry was sent to St.
Marys.
A Stratford surgeon was
also able to perform a
number of procedures in
Seaforth during the water
crisis when surgery was
cancelled in Stratford.
"The help we were able to
give speaks to the
coordination and the benefits
of the Alliance," said
Cardinal.
Nurses hired at SCH
Seaforth Community
Hospital recently recruited
three full-time nurses to its
inpatient services unit, site
administrator Mary Cardinal
told the Seaforth LAC last
Tuesday.
"It's been a challenge
filling the positions.
Registered nurses are in short
supply," she said.
The recent hirings do not
create an increase in staffing
at the Seaforth hospital.
Vehicle windows
smashed at Boilersmith
The windows of two vehicles parked at Boilersmith Inc. on
Main Street in Seaforth were smashed sometime overnight on
March 30, reports the Huron OPP.
The windows of a blue 1998 Ford Ranger and a gray 2004
Ford van were smashed out by rocks.

years to their terms.
The LAC may have a membership of five to seven
community representatives along with the chair or designated
representative of the hospital foundation, the president or
designated representative of the hospital auxiliary, one director
of the Alliance board and the site chief bf the hospital board.
The role of the LACs is to provide advice and consultation
about the Alliance's mission, vision and values, strategic plan,
decision to add or eliminate services and programs at the local
hospital, local community health and wellness and recruitment
or retention of professional staff.
As well the LAC provides ad hoc recommendations about
whether it's in the hospital's best interests to withdraw from the
Alliance.
Because the LAC serves as a training ground for future
Alliance board members, it will be consulted for candidates to
fill the Seaforth vacancy on the Alliance board, said Williams.
"The nominating committee will go to the LAC for
recommendations and assess against the needs of the board," he
said.
An information session will be planned for the end of April in
Seaforth for any interested members of the Alliance board or
the Seaforth LAC.

HURON PERTH
HEALTHCARE
ALLIANCE
There are many great things happening at the
Seaforth Community Hospital site these days!
? Resumption of outpatient physiotherapy for those
individuals with acute conditions and who are not covered
by health benefits and/or third party insurance.
? Resumption of occupational therapy services effective
mid-April.
? Ministry of Health and Long Term Care funding to
purchase a new ultrasound machine, patient lifts, sterile
processing equipment and safety equipment (e.g. needleless
IVs). Funding was also received to support the provincial
Nursing Strategy; and assist with the Ministry s agenda to
become more efficient and transform health care services.
? Redesign of the inpatient medication room to improve
working conditions, safety and ease of medication
administration. Generous community contributions have
allowed thc Foundation to purchase 2 medication carts.
? A special thanks to the Auxiliary for their donation of a
tilt -recline wheelchair and a TV for the Patient Lounge.
4 Your gifts to the Foundation resulted in the purchase of a
wider -width wheelchair and new and upgraded
defibrillators. Foundation members arc also a key local
voice.
? Seaforth help was crucial during the water advisory in
Stratford. There was rapid response to move staff and
equipment between sites to ensure minimal impact on
patient care. A number of additional surgical procedures
were rescheduled to the Seaforth site and we provided
significant support in cleaning and sterilizing equipment.
? Recent re -roofing of the Hospital
? Submission for funding for Family Health Teams
? Recruitment of Dr. Helen Frye to a full time practice in
the Seaforth Medical Clinic
? Relocation of the Huron Perth Crisis Intervention
Program to a lower level office to maintain a Huron based
office
