Clinton Ice Dogs win
first game of provincial
finals 9-3 against Tilbury
The first game of the
finals for the Ontario Minor
Hockey Association
(OMHA) juveniles was
played in Clinton on March
19, with Alysha Dowson
singing the national anthem
for a full arena.
Tilbury scored five
minutes into the game and
from there Clinton took the
rest of the game.
Jamie Stephenson scored
three minutes later with the
assists going to Paul Dagg
and Brad Henderson.
Ken Courtney from Dave
Shropshall scored one
minute later, Shropshall
from Nic Jansen and Dave
McClory.
Kyle Courtney from
McClory and Chad Wise
finished the scoring for
Clinton in the first to end the
period 4-1.
Tilbury came out in the
second with the first goal
halfway through the period,
but Dagg from Henderson
and Shropshall from Jansen
finished the scoring for
Clinton.
The score was 6-2 for the
Ice Dogs after two periods.
The third was Clinton's
with Stephenson, Henderson
and Dagg (empty net) all
scored. Assists went to
Stephenson, Dagg and
Henderson.
Tilbury managed one more
goal late in the period to
make the final score 9-3 for
the BCH Ice Dogs. Layne
Lavis did a great job in net.
The second game of the
series was played in Tilbury
on March 20.
The Ice Dogs' Kevin
Sneider let a shot go from
the blue line and Jansen
deflected that in. The other
assist went to Ken Courtney.
With just two seconds to
go in the first, Kyle
Courtney, from Mike Wise,
finished the scoring in the
first. Both of these goals
were on power plays.
Dave Shropshall, from
Ken Courtney, started the
scoring in the middle of the
second period to take the
lead for the Juveniles. With
more than four minutes to go
in the period, Tilbury
managed a power -play goal.
With just over 10 minutes
to go in the third, McClory,
unassisted, made the score 4-
1 for the IceDogs.
One minute later, Tilbury
managed one and one minute
after that the team knocked
in another one to make the
score 4-3 and a little tighter.
Three minutes later, Curtis
Blake fired Stephenson a
beautiful breakaway pass
for a short-handed goal to
finish the scoring for the
BCH crew.
Tilbury managed one more
goal, but the Ice Dogs
managed to hang on for a 5-
4 win.
Nathan Montgomery did a
great job in net.
The next game of the
series is in Tilbury on March
25 at 5 p.m.
Game four is in Clinton on
March 26 at 4 p.m. (if
necessary) and game five is
in Tilbury on March 27 at 4
p.m. (if necessary).
Godfather's Pizza is
having a pizza night fund-
raiser for the team
Wednesday (tonight), from
4-8 p.m., to support the
Juveniles in their quest for
the OMHA Juvenile Title.
Four Seaforth players are
on the team, including Brad
Henderson, Nic Jansen,
Craig Nigh and Dave
McClory.
