More than 20 events
planned for Seniors'
Games this spring

It's going to be a busy
spring for local seniors
games competitors, with
more than 20 events
scheduled throughout Huron,
Perth and Middlesex counties
in the coming
months.
Snooker will
kick off the
2005 Seniors
Games District
29 (Huron,
Perth and
Middlesex)
competitions
at the
Strathroy
Seniors Centre
on May 3.
Senior
May 24, duplicate bridge on
May 25 at the Stratford
Kiwanis Centre and six hand
pepper at the Mitchell
Community Centre.
Walking will take place at
the Parkhill Leisure Club on
May 30, swimming at the
Vanastra Recreation
Complex on
June 1, lawn
bowling at
the Mitchell
L awn
B owling
Club on June
2 and a
triathlon at
the St. Marys
trail on June
3.
On June 6

from the Seaforth-area would
participate in the games.
"It keeps them active and it
gives them something to do,"
Preszcator said.
"I wish' we had more
participating," Pryce added.
Last year between 40 to 50
local seniors participated at
the district level in activities
like bowling, golf and
swimming.
In Ontario, over 20,000
seniors participate in the
events planned and run for
seniors in 40 districts across
Ontario.
Events include solo at the
Lucan Community Centre on
May 5, ten pin bowling on
May 10 at Fleetway 40 in
London, contract bridge on
May 12 at the Delaware
Community Centre, and
cribbage on May 11 at the
Grand Bend Legion Hall.
Darts will take place at the
Grand Cove Club House on
May 17, four -hand bid
euchre at the New Zurich
Arena on May 18, five pin
bowling on May 19 and 20 at
Crown Lanes in Clinton.
Carpet bowling will take
place at the Exeter Arena on

can move on the regional or
Actifest events.
Actifest - involving all of
Ontario's 40 districts - is
held during even -numbered
years. In the off years,
winners can participate in the
regionals, which are similar
to the provincial games, but
only include eight districts.
Regionals are being hosted
this year in Windsor.
Last year, Seaforth brought
home four gold, three silver
and one bronze medal, at the
district games. Gwen Scott
placed first in the ladies'
100 -metre swim and Joan
Petrie in the 200 -metre swim
and the speed swim, while
golfers Brian Carrier and
John Fleming both brought
home golds.
Silver medalists included
golfer Ev Huston and
shuffleboard team Katherine
De Corte and Anne Van
Dooren.
The bronze medallist was
Rose Doyle in the women's
golf event.
Walton's Joan Perrie
placed third in the 55-64
year-old 200 metre prediction
swim at Actifest in St.
Catherines, last year. Also
participating in Actifest were
Gwen Scott who swam and
John Fleming who golfed.
To sign up for the senior
games, participants must
contact Marty Bedard at
Huron East Town Hall at
527-0160 by April 15.

A Seaforth Public School
curling team, based out of
the Vanastra Curling Club,
had two wins and two losses
at the recent Timbits
provincial curling
