THE HURON EXPOSITOR. March 23. 2005-11
St. Columban residents
return from Cuba, Mexico
Tom and
Lynn Burke,
along with
Gerry and
Nancy O'Reilly have returned from a
recent trip to Cuba.
They stayed at the Cayo Coco Resort,
where they enjoyed warm weather with a
light breeze and no rain. They
participated in a cruise by catamaran, a
huge log raft with pontoons and sails,
where they went snorkeling and enjoyed
the uninhabited white sand beaches.
Gerry and Nancy took a bus tour into
the town of Moron, and with the help of
a tour guide, met many local people and
distributed among them items they could
use. The local people are very poor and
the area has suffered from severe dry
spells.
Mike and Cory Dekroon, Jeff and
Kevin Murray, Brent Cronin, Jeremy
Ryan and Derek Terpstra spent a week in
Cancun, Mexico.
Enjoying the warm weather, with only
a few days of morning sprinkles, they
met a lot of other young people from
Toronto, Alberta, Manitoba and British
Columbia. Because it was also the
American spring break, they met many
other young people from all over.
They enjoyed the hotel where they
stayed, and participated in some
activities including snorkeling and a
cruise. They also toured the countryside,
where they found a lot of places for
bargaining.
Traveling to Cancun by Jetsgo, the lads
found themselves among many unlucky
St. Columban
people caught
in the
company's
demise.
Luckily, they had booked their vacation
through a reputable travel agency, and
flew home with Sky Service. They said
the flight home was better than the flight
down.
Paul Cronin and Mick Dietrich have
returned from Calgary where they visited
a high school friend, Mark Flaherty, who
is attending college there. The young
men rented snowmobiles, and drove to
Revelstoke, British Columbia.
On the trip, there were several trails
and places where they could stop, unload
the snowmobiles and drive them through
the mountains. The open spaces above
the tree line provided spectacular scenery
and wonderful open space to utilize the
snowmobiles to their potential.
Jason Ryan and Joe Nicholson Jr. have
returned from visiting Holland where
they visited with acquaintances and
friends who are at school there on
exchange. They toured the countryside
by train and taxi and visited many farms.
Frances Melady is currently residing at
Parkwood in London, participating in all
the available therapy for speech and
physical activity, and progressing well.
Cecilia Ryan celebrated her birthday
surrounded by most of her family
members. They gathered 'at the home of
Gerry and Karen Ryan to celebrate the
special occasion.
