Playing with Shakespeare
Recently, students from St. Columban were Playing
with Shakespeare in a student drama presentation. The
show featured various short scenes from
Shakespearean plays. In a scene from Romeo and Juliet,
members of the Monetguie family, Karen Louwagie,
Katelyn Bedour, Nancy Louwagie, Katie Ryan and
Thomas Murray, revolt against the Capulet family,
while in the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet,
many girls playing Juliet take the stage to call out to
Romeo. Juliet's, Rianne Rops, Karen Louwagie, Meghan
Carlow and Michelle Corbett (on the ground), all fight
for Romeo's attention. Thomas Murray, playing
Mercutio is killed by members of the Capulet family,
Natalie Visser and Christian Schickhr.
Students hold Candy Day
Winter in Huron
County is a time when
many people enjoy a
time away in the
sunny south.
Gerry and Karen Ryan,
along with Ken and Anne
Murray, have returned from a
trip to Costa Rica. Very close
to the equator, the weather
there was warm in the
morning and at night, and hot
during the day.
They stayed at the Fiesta
Premier Resort, near the
small town of Liberia. Every
day a different country from
the world was presented, and
was reflected in costume,
decoration, food and
entertainment.
Bep Klaver and Mary Van
Valkengoed enjoyed a visit to
San Andres Island in the
Caribbean, off the coast of
South America. They report
St. Columban
that the weather was warm
and sunny. The friendly
people there have two speeds
- slow and slower.
Students at St. Columban
School held a "Candy Day"
during which various kinds of
candy were sold to raise
funds for Student Council
projects.
The Grade 8s have had
their grad photos taken in
preparation for the big day.
Students from the entire
student body participated in
the "Playing With
Shakespeare" event, and had
a lot of fun, whether acting or
helping in the background.
A co-ed school team
participated in a Borden ball
tournament held at St.
Patrick's School in
Kinkora.
Before enjoying a
week of March break
holidays, the students
participated in a "Green Day"
where everyone wore their
green colors in anticipation of
St. Patrick's Day.
Many of the students will
be participating in the annual
Knights of Columbus Hockey
Tournament held at the
Seaforth Arena this coming
weekend.
The Juniors will play on
Saturday, March 19, while
the seniors will play on
Sunday, March 20.
The local Knights will be
cooking breakfast for 'the
event on Saturday from 8:00
a.m. until noon, while on
Sunday it will be served from
8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
