"Seaforth has been a ringette town for many years but hockey is very popular for girls now and it's our biggest competitor for girls," says ringette executive president Janet Keys. While Seaforth Ringette has been offering the first year of Bunnies (ages five to seven) for free for the past six years to attract girls to the sport, the executive also decided this year to hold a bring -a - friend day. "We hope to get more families and more players involved in the sport. You get parents trying it because it's free and hopefully, the kids will enjoy it and want to stay," says Keys. She says t h e executive keeps trying to find ways to attract players because they want to see ringette thrive and grow in town. "This is marketing for the whole sport," she says. Potential bunnies are invited to try out ringette on March 13 at 4 p.m. while potential novices (ages eight and nine) are invited at 5 p.m. The only equipment needed for the day is skates and a helmet. Ferguson won gold in the 100 metre freestyle while Reinink won bronze in the 50 metre freestyle, both in the swimmers with a disability category.
