Volunteers look to raise $11,000
for new playground equipment
By Jason Middleton
Expositor Stall
After an act of vandalism
destroyed their playground
last fall, students at St.
Patrick's school in Dublin
have began a fundraising
campaign a new set of
equipment installed.
Last month, a group of
volunteers got together
discuss how they were going
to raise approximately
$11,000 to pay for a new
playground on the school's
property.
Fundraising committee
parent volunteer Colleen
Pletsch, of Mitchell, said the
idea of raising money was
discussed at parent council
and a group got together to
raise the funds.
In October, the playground
equipment at St. Patrick's
school was removed after it
was vandalized by someone
who either threw rocks at
the structure or had kicked it
repeatedly.
The equipment had been at
the school for 10 years, after
coming over from St.
Columban School.
With their fundraising
campaign, the committee is
asking businesses and
service groups for donations
to help raise the necessary
funds to install a new
playground.
Pletsch said that the
fundraising committee also
plans on applying for grants.
"Eventually, we'd like to
see something obviously
geared towards children that
are in Junior Kindergarten
to Grade 3 because it's a
junior school," said Pletsch,
adding that she would like
to see slides and monkey
bars installed on the
playground.
On the school yard, the
students currently only have
a set of swings.
By the spring, Pletsch
said, they would like to raise
enough money to have some
playground equipment
installed.
Pletsch said she would like
to see something that
children at both the school
and in the community can
use.
