St. Columban youth head to Dominican Republic
later this month as part of a poverty awareness trip
Family members, relatives,
neighbours and friends
celebrated with Vincent
Murray on the occasion of
his 85th birthday.
After gathering at St.
James church in Seaforth for
mass, they met at the St.
Columban parish hall to
continue the celebration with
cake and ice cream.
All of his children were
present to help him celebrate
the occasion. Dean Murray
and Steve Balfour, two of his
grandsons, made a
presentation on behalf of the
family, and shared some
stories about their
grandfather.
A resounding rendition of
"Happy Birthday" was sung
to Vincent by his great-
grandchildren, accompanied
on the piano
by Jacob
Gillanders-
Balfour.
The "metropolis" of St.
Columban is glad to
welcome two new families
who have recently moved
here. Jeff and Ellen Zehr and
family have moved into the
house beside the church.
Kevin and Lorraine Denneny,
Jamie, Aaron and Jesse, have
moved here from Guelph
after purchasing the former
Dianna's and "roost"
restaurant.
Under the direction of

the young people who will
be travelling to the

Feb. 19-26 for the "poverty
awareness" trip gathered at
5t. Columban
the local
Knights of
Columbus
Hall for a
retreat time of prayer and
reflection in preparation for
their adventure.
Many suitcases of much
needed toiletries, first-aid
and school supplies have
been made ready and filled,
thanks to the generosity of
many local area people.
Melissa Murray, Jayne Van
Bakel, Anne Visser and
Christina Simons are four
young women from the area
who will be travelling to the
Dominican Republic, along
with about 20 other students
from St. Michael High
School.
Rosemary Balfour has
returned from a recent visit
to North Delta, B.C. where
she visited with family
members, including Gord
Butters, Kim and Stewart
Anderson and Kalia, and
Cheryl and Paul Sharpe.
While there, she enjoyed a
scenic visit to Whistler.
Students at St. Columban
School celebrated Ash
Wednesday with mass at St.
Patrick's Church in Dublin,
then participated in "Buddy
Day" with the students at St.
Patrick's School. A skiing
trip to Chick'opee had to be
postponed until March.
The Grade 7 class sold

Brain Tumor Association.
The Grade 8 class enjoye.1 a.
