Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, still always dear, Still loved, still missed, still ever near. - Sadly missed by Lois and Family 46-04x1 KONARSKI In loving memory of our dear daughter and sister, Angela, who left us eight years ago on January 27, 1997 He came and took you silently, One morning before dawn, And left behind an emptiness, With tears that just flow on. Our days have been so lonely, Hidden tears will always fall, Thinking bask into the memories, Of how you loved us all. We did not get to say goodbye, But stood and held your hand, While he took your kind and gentle soul, Up to his Heavenly land. You've touched so many people, In your special kind of way, Family, friends and others Each and every day. Our lifetime full of love together, Will not come to an end, For we keep you in our hearts, Until we meet again. - Lovingly remembered and deeply missed by Mom and Dad, Jason and LeeAnn, and Jenn and Rick 48-04xlcc I . (', r(Is of Thanks BEUERMAN I would like to express my thanks to Dr. Rooyakkers and Dr. Hancock for their diligent care. Also, the nurses and staff at Stratford General Hospital and especially to the 3rd floor for your patience, kindness and skills. Thank you to family, friends and neighbours for visits, phone calls, flowers, food, cards and for the fruit basket (the treats were great) since returning home from surgery. Once again thank you everyone. - Judy Beuerman 47-04x1 RUSTON We thank you, so much. Our thoughts thank you. Our smiles thank you. And our brighter days thank you. Thank you. For making more than a difference. For taking more than just the time. Thank you for doing...all that you so wonderful- ly did. We wish we could express the gratitude we feel in so many dif- ferent ways. It's hard to say the meaningful things. The words that come to mind usually find them- selves falling short of the feelings that we'd like to share and the things we'd like to say. But we want you to know that "Thanks" is one emotion that flows directly into the heart. And it's a very wonderful feel- ing that never goes away.Thank you from the heart for all the help from the loss of our home. - Bruce, Deb, Kayla and Lindsey Ruston 47- 04x1 WESENBERG A huge thank -you to ambulance drivers, Dr. Shepherd, nurses and therapist of Seaforth Hospital for the excellent care I received while in hospital. THE HURON EXPOSITOR, Jan. 26, 2005 • 11 Net% s Hensall residents vote unanimously to hook up to Lake Huron pipeline By Erle Coups Lakeshore Advance Staff Residents of Hensall have voted unanimously in favour of hooking up to the Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System (LHPWSS). The cost for the taxpayer would be approximately $1,200 per year or $3.29 per day. This is based on a 20 -year loan with $50,000 to be paid back per year, over 20 years. At a meeting on Thursday night at the Hensall arena, a vote was taken from the 38 in attendance on three options presented by Rod Parker, Bluewater Council Member for Hensall. The option selected by those present includes a requirement of a larger pipe to Exeter, main to Hensall and more storage in Hensall. The cost of this option is $6.2 million with $42,000 per year to operate. Hensall has been plagued by high nitrates in their water, which have risen as high as 14 parts -per - million accord- ing to Parker. Currently however, the water is current- ly well below the provincial standard for nitrates of 10 parts -per -million the Bluewater councillor said. "These problems have been around for years," Parker said at Thursday's meeting. "It's gone away but it always seems to come back. I can't guarantee it won't be (back) here in five to 10 years if we don't make changes." The first of the other two options presented was nitrate treatment and replacement of the York Street well. It would require a new treatment building and new pumphouses and would cost $2.3 million and $93,000 a year to operate. The second option was to drill up to four wells to dilute nitrate. The proposal would require a hydrogeo- logic inves- tigation, roof on reservoir and a new facility. The cost of that option would be $2.1 million plus $67,000 a year in operation costs. "I will take the voted deci- sion as what the people want," Parker said. "I will then take it back to council." Regardless of Friday night's decision, Parker says that the water rates have to be increased. With low water rates over the past several years, money reserves for the water supply have been depleted Parker says. "The rates have to be boosted to a level playing field," Parker said. 'I will take the voted decision as what the people want.' I will then take it back to council,'- Bluewater Council Member for Hensel! Rod Parker Catholic school board looks to reverse low scores on standardized provincial math tests By Stew Slater Special to the Expositor The Huron -Perth Catholic District School Board has "some chal- lenges ahead," states educa- tion superintendent Martha Dutrizac, as it works to reverse a decreasing level of success in provincially standardized Grade 9 Math tests. At a regular meeting Monday, Jan. 24, Dutrizac delivered a report about results from the board's two secondary schools in tests administered last spring by the Education Quality and Accountability - Office (EQAO). "We definitely experi- enced a notable decrease," she said. Showing graphs compar- ing results province -wide and in the Huron -Perth board, over the past four years, Dutrizac explained the success rates among students from St. Anne's in Clinton and St. Michael in Stratford gradually increased from 2000 until 2003. The board's success rates also remained slightly above the province -wide average during those same years. In , 2004,- however, the board results in both Academic and Applied streams slipped below the previous year's levels, and also below the Ontario average. St. Michael results were particularly low, with St. Anne's students general- ly remaining close to their provincial counterparts. In the Academic stream, 57 per cent of Huron -Perth Grade 9s scored at or above the provincial standard, compared to 65 per cent throughout Ontario. In the Applied stream, 22 per cent achieved scores at or above the standard, com- pared with 25 per cent province -wide. Applied -level results have generally been quite. low across the province, since the EQAO tests were introduced -- leading both to alterations to the test and suggestions the process should be totally revamped. Dutrizac agreed, suggesting the Huron -Perth board's Applied -level results are, at least in part, symptomatic of a wider problem. She admitted, however, that last spring's Academic - level results are cause for concern. She said the board will use the results as "an opportunity to look at what we're doing in our schools." One suggestion the superintendent made was addressing the teaching of Math in the years leading up to Grade 9. "We're always aware of the generalist teachers in the intermediate level who are not always focussed, in their approach, on an area of expertise such as Mathematics," Dutrizac said. As has been the case in previous years, last spring's Grade 9 EQAO Math results for the Avon Maitland District School Board were well above the provincial average in both Academic and Applied streams. Beer and cash stolen from the Vanastra Curling Club Beer and cash were stolen and $1,000 in dam- ages was done to the alarm system when a break-in occurred at' the Vanastra Curling Club on Jan. 18, say the Huron OPP. A case of beer was stolen along with approxi- mately $500 in cash. Anyone with related information is asked to call the Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers.
