Michelle Sinnamon and her three teenaged children were living in the main part of the house, located at the corner of Highway 8 and Mill Street in Dublin, but only Michelle's 16 -year-old son Brent and a friend were home at the time of the blaze, which was called in shortly before 4 p.m. Neither Gebhardt nor his 18 -year-old son Rob were home in the apartment (or granny flat) when the fire started. Gebhardt's daughter, 15, usually visits on weekends, but she wasn't there either. They also lost everything in the blaze. Gebhardt and Sinnamon were former partners and once shared the home. He had items stored in the main part of the house and in the basement, which were lost in the blaze. "It's all the sentimental stuff," he said. "A house can be built." Gebhardt said he was visiting his daughter who was sick at her mother's place when he heard about the fire, and by the time he arrived on scene later that evening, there was nothing left of the building - and no one around. For now he's staying with his parents in Ethel while his son lives with friends so he can remain close to his two part- time jobs, one in Mitchell and another in Brussels. No long-term plans have been made yet, he said last Thursday. Gebhardt said he may wait until they have a new place to live, hopefully in January, before they have their own Christmas celebration. "Everybody's doing fine," he said. "But until we get a home back again, it'll be an emotional time." In the meantime, Gebhardt has been grateful for the support of his co- workers at Boshart Industries Inc. in Milverton, who have given him clothing. "If it hasn't been for the people at work, I don't know what we'd do," he said. Gebhardt also gave special thanks to the major donation provided by the Mitchell & District Kinettes and Kinsmen. Trucks stolen in Seaforth, Cranbrook and Brussels Sometime during the night of Dec. 30, a green and silver 1996 Chev extended cab truck was stolen out of a driveway on Isabella Street in Seaforth. The truck has a green bug deflector on the front and has a personalized license plate (MOREY 1). A truck was also stolen from a residence on Cranbrook Line near the Village of Cranbrook in Huron East sometime between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. on Dec. 31. A blue 1992 Chev pickup truck that was left unlocked with the keys in the ignition was driven away and found a short distance away in the ditch. According to Huron OPP, footprints leave the truck and go to another residence in Cranbrook on McNabb Line where a grey 1988 Chev full-sized van was also stolen and found later in a parking lot of a Brussels apartment complex on Turnberry Street. Ilurot 0I'1' The van belonged to a carpenter and had the company name on the side. Nothing was stolen from the van and some damage was done to the side mirrors. Huron East woman charged with impaired driving A 25 -year-old Huron East woman was charged with impaired driving on Dec. 31, at approximately 2:30 a.m. after she was stopped by police on Market Street in Seaforth. The woman, who was driving a purple 1997 Pontiac Sunfire, was taken for breath tests but refused to cooperate and didn't blow into the breathalyzer. She was also charged with refusing to provide breath samples, a liquor violation for open alcohol in the vehicle and a Highway Traffic Act offense of driving with a G21 license with a BAC above zero. She is scheduled to attend court in Goderich on Feb. 21. Man charged after spitting on cruiser A 40 -year-old Alberta man was charged with being intoxicated in a public place after spitting on a Huron OPP cruiser on Dec. 31 at 11:30 p.m. The cruiser was parked on Main Street in Seaforth. An officer approached the man who attempted to run but tripped over a curb. He fell to the ground and became violent with the officer before being arrested and held in custody overnight. Stolen car found at Heritage Estates A car stolen in August from a residence on Bridge Road in Huron East was found on Dec. 20 at Heritage Estates near Seaforth. Huron OPP officers found the car - a blue 1995 Chrysler Neon - at a trailer covered up by a tarp while investigating a complaint at the trailer park.
