Brett Finlayson was out on his tractor picking stones in the pasture at his Maple Line hobby farm Sunday morning at 8 a.m. when the sky grew very dark and the air became completely calm. "He knew something was coming so he put the tractor away and got the dogs into the shed just in time before the storm hit. He spent the storm hiding in the corner of the shed with the dogs and he throught the shed was coming down," said his wife Janice on Monday. The violent storm that blew from St. Joseph's in Huron County to the Stratford area in Perth County passed through the Hensall and Tuckersmith area, uprooting trees, ripping roofs off barns and houses and levelling sheds. And, Kittie MacGregor, unofficial chair of the organ- izing committee, says her committee will have to do some work to determine how to revitalize the once -popular program for local children. May, 2004 A series of lacrosse work- shops are being held at the Seaforth arena over the next several weeks in hopes of cre- ating enough interest to being a local lacrosse league, says Steve Wolfe, of the Ontario Lacrosse Association. Wolfe was teaching lacrosse skills to a dozen Seaforth-area children Tuesday night to promote the sport. After several years of attempting to get a communi- ty policing committee going in Seaforth, Lions Club presi- dent Cathy Elliott is planning a May 17 information night after a successful initial meet- ing was held with eight local citizens in mid-April. After singing with the Amabile Boys' Choir, of London, Ont., for seven years, Don Sills is bringing the internationally -renowned group to Seaforth on May 14. While it's likely his last year with the boys' and young men's chorus, Sills wants to expose the town and potential new members to the sound of a male chorus, something he says is a rare sound in today's world. John Ryan is eager to take his tape measure to the old water tower site behind Seaforth's town hall to meas- ure the dimensions of a new skateboard park for the town. "I'm happy that it's a go ahead. Once council made their move, it went quickly and we really appreciate that," said Ryan in response to news that Huron East council decided on a site for the park last Tuesday. A dream that began 10 years ago is becoming reality this summer as the Bridges of Seaforth opens a sales office June 12 and begins building a recreation complex and model homes this summer. "The pot's been simmering for quite some time but everything's ripe and coming together now," says Bridges partner Iry Teper, who along with Egmondville native Bill MacLean, is developing a 248 -home adult lifestyle community within the Seaforth Golf Club. With 70 interested buyers on a list already, both partners are excited to begin promot- ing both their development and the community of Seaforth. June, 2004 A farm hit by a suspected tornado near Winthrop on May 22 brought more than 150 people out to help clean up the damage. The Packer family farm sus- tained $150,000 in damages when strong winds blew away both their drive shed, grain bin and several trees. Joking that the Van Egmond House is a "fairly modern building" since it was built in 1846 - at least by Shakespearean standards - William Shakespeare sang the praises of tourism in Seaforth and Huron County last Thursday.
