THE HURON EXPOSITOR, DEC. 8, 2004 -9 Student donates hair to Angel Hair for Kids By Susan Hundertmark Expositor Editor After growing her hair for three years, Kelsi Trotter, a Grade 7 student at Seaforth Public School, has decided to make 10 inches of' it a Christmas donation to Angel Hair for Kids in Mississauga. Trotter decided to grow her hair to donate for children with cancer who need wigs after hearing about others doing the sante thing in the news. "1 thought it was a good idea," she says. While Kelsi was con- sidering getting her hair cut before returning to school in September, it wasn't quite long enough. "I almost chickened out but my mom thought I should stick it out," she says. Kelsi got her hair cut at Total Image II last Wednesday where owner Karen Ryan says the trend towards donating hair is getting more popular. "We had a young lady here two or three weeks ago who wanted to cut her hair cut off and we talked her into donating it. More and more girls are doing it all the time," says Ryan. Organizations who accept donated hair are listed with the Canadian Cancer Society. Joan Chesney has 32 years of experience with the Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary, has been its president several times and ran an Easter egg project where she made all the eggs herself. "Joan has been there every time we needed something," says Bedard. Margaret Marian Lee has been on the Seaforth Auxiliary over 25 years and held execu- tive positions. She also took on a several year project to 'write the bylaws for the group. The two were nominated by the Seaforth Auxiliary and Bedard had to fill out applica- tion forms and write letters of recommendation for each of them. "Nominees don't always get accepted. They're very strict," she says. The group of life members honoured this year accumulat- ed 2,000 years of service and dedication to their respective hospitals. In Seaforth, only three other living members have been named provincial life members - Frances Teatero, Alice Reid and Dorothy Hays. Teatero, Bedard and Grace Corbett attended the function in Toronto with Lee and Chesney. "It was a big gala and they were piped into the room. They were very well honoured," says Bedard.
