I agreed and began to help them clear off the recently fallen snow off the surface of the ice. 1 told them that 1 had no real hockey experience, but they didn't seem to mind. When the game started, the other players could skate Letter Letter to Premier protests bed cuts in rural hospitals To the Editor: A copy of the following letter has been forwarded to Members of Parliament both federally and provincially. This is not my first letter to those "in power." The voice of many could change things. Think about it. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Ordinary everyday working people can change things. The Honourable Dalton McGuinty, MPP Premier Main Building Room 281 Toronto, On. M7A 1 A 1 Legislative Dear Premier, I, as a member of the Auxiliary to the Seaforth Community Hospital, am writing to you to express my feelings and concerns regarding the possible restructuring of our hospital. which has been brought about because of the budgeting of four facilities designated into a group referred to as Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance. First, my alliance is to my community and people who live here. I wish for no other hospital to be closed or down -sized because of this affiliation. However, it has been my experience in life what is taken away in restructuring is very seldom returned. (In plain words, whatever you give up you never get back). The formula base used for financial support to a rural area is not feasible or workable and should be revisited by someone who has hospital employment experience. 1 hate to break this news to you, but we also pay taxes and as citizens of this area are entitled to some assurance of help when we are sick, and need beds for recovery and a place to die if life dictates. We, as human beings, are born, live and die and have the right to expect help during our time of distress of mind and body. Cutting beds means less hands on care for local people. Trauma is not just unique in urban areas. I know there are no guarantees in life, but people should be held accountable for what they take away from a community they neither live in or have roots to. Some say, "what difference does it make?" None, if you are not willing to say I am as mad as hell, and you are not going to do this to me. Be accountable. Our Auxiliary has raised money to purchase equipment needed by the physicians and staff who work and live in our community. In our 70 years of existence, we have had a steadfast, caring and long-term membership, with some members who have attained 25, 30, 40 and 60 years of service. We have always done what was requested of us. We have lost services from our community, which we should not have, simply because we were told to rely on out-of-town influences. This is not acceptable. Take a better look at our hospital with the helicopter pad, doctor's clinic, Community Care Access building and 80 acres of land. By the way did I also mention that we vote in this community, both federally and provincially. Things can change. Frances R. Teatero Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer circles around the but they still passed the puck to me every once in a while. The hockey stick 1 was using was two feet too short and cracked while I shot the puck up the ice. With no more hockey sticks, my first game of hockey was over. I left that game knowing that hockey is a game I'd like to get to know a little better, but until I find someone willing to teach me, I'll stick to playing hockey video games.
