The school's soccer teams, junior girls, junior hoys, senior girls and senior hoys, participated in the system tournament held recently in Stratford. While a good effort was put forward by all the teams, and everyone enjoyed the tournament, only the junior girls team made it to the semi-finals. Several students from St. Columhan School were among the over 1,300 students who participated in the Pat Cook Run held recently at St. Michael School in Stratford. This annual event is held in memory of Dublin resident Pat Cook, who thoroughly enjoyed running. It was an exhilarating sight to watch as 75 to 100 runners in each age category took off from the start line of each race. Approximately three to four minutes later, these runners could be seen still running to finish their race to the applause and coaching of many parents, grandparents, fancily members, teachers and spectators. A cross country competition was held at Wildwood this pas week where several St. Columban students also competed. Carolyn Murray placed second in her category. Students from St. Columban and St. Patrick's Schools, under the direction of their music teacher, Francine Looby, are working hard to produce a CD of Christmas music, to be ready for distribution in time for Christmas. Students from each grade including Kindergarten to Grade 8 will sing a song for the CD. Both the St. Columhan school choir and St. Patrick's school choir will sing as well. Three local church choirs, including St. Vincent de Paul church choir, Mitchell, the St. Patrick's church choir, Dublin and the St. Columhan church choir will contribute a song for the CD. Parishioners from St. Columhan Church are putting together a parish cookbook under the coordination of Fran Malone, who is collecting the recipes and putting them together. All parishioners are asked to submit a family recipe for the cookbook along with a story as to why this recipe is a family favourite. As well, former parishioners of St. Columban Church are invited to forward their recipes to Fran along with a story about the recipe and why it is a family favourite. Boxes are placed at the hack of the church to collect the recipes or Fran will gladly pick them up. Young people of the area are preparing for another COR weekend which will he held at St. Patrick's School in Dublin, Nov. 12-14. This weekend retreat is facilitated for young people between the ages of 1-22, giving them the opportunity to come together, meet new friends and reflect on various aspects of their life and faith.
