(:or respondents • 4-H sheep club cleans up at recent meeting The Huron County 4-H Sheep Club held their sixth meeting on Sept. 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Jacqui Bishop's place. We learned how to wash a sheep, dry them and brush them to get them ready for Fair Day. Then we saw how to card their fleece, 4-H Sheep Club clip their feet and how to use the hand sheers. After we were all done we had a practice show. Leader Chris showed us how to set up our lambs and how to keep our eye on the judge. Then we had our test for the Sheep Club and the 4- H Club test. We had a pot luck supper that was provided by the members from both the North Huron Sheep Club and the South Huron Sheep Club. We ended the meeting with the 4-H motto. By Jessie Leeming News Local student challenges others to give locks to help others' lives By Susan Hundsrtmark Expositor Editor After cutting her hair last June for Wigs for Kids, Stacie Van Miltenburg is challenging students at St. James School to start growing their hair to make the same kind of donation during cancer month in April. Van Miltenburg, who graduated from St. James last year and is now a Grade 9 student at St. Anne's Secondary School in Clinton, says she's making the challenge at her alma mater because of the number of students who expressed an interest in the project last year. "There were about five little girls who wanted to do it too but their hair was too short at the time," she says. While boys are also welcome to take up the challenge, Van Miltenburg is guessing that most boys won't have enough time to grow their hair by April. But, she hopes to make the project an ongoing one. It took Van Miltenburg four years to grow her hair long enough to make a donation and she is growing it again to make another donation. "It's a good cause and it's become tiny cause," she says. Anyone who wants to donate must have a 10 to I2 -inch braid that is clean, dry, secured with a rubber hand and stored in a plastic bag. The hair must not be colour -treated. She says anyone who currently has about eight or nine inches of hair could aim to participate in April. Those who do will be asked to collect pledges to raise money again for the pediatric ward at the London and District Children's Hospital, which receives wigs from Wigs for Kids in Ohio. Wigs for Kids is a non - profit organization providing hair replacement solutions for children affected by hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, burns and other medical conditions. Last year, St. James raised $456.35 in donations for the children's hospital in London. While she's issued the challenge at St. James, Vart Miltenburg says she'd be willing to visit any other school that wanted to get involved and to organize a similar challenge there, "I'd be willing to go to any school if the interest is there," she says.
