Come Home to the Country plans come
together with more community support

Come Home to the
Country is moseying along
as plans come together for
the three-day festival
scheduled for the Civic
Holiday in July 2005.
Event coordinator
Maureen Agar said the
committee s making more
plans and more community
groups are coming aboard.
We have an exciting
lineup that the Come Home
to the Country committee is
working on, said Agar, in an
e-mail.
One event, which Agar
describes as whimsical,
will be an attempt to break or
create a Guinness World
Record by holding the largest
community picnic.
It takes about eight weeks
for the Guinness Book of
Records to approve the idea,
so hopefully before
Christmas we will know the
rules we will need to follow
and if Seaforth has a chance
in creating or making a
record, said Agar, who has
already contacted Guinness
World Records.
Seaforth is already known
as a friendly, family town
and a great community, so
this is a way we could flaunt
it to the world, said Agar.
On the Sunday of the
Come Home to Country
festival, checkered pieces of
cloth will be handed out and
participants will will go
outside with family and
friends to enjoy a wonderful
picnic.
Events planned for the
weekend include a flea
market, tours and Sunday
brunch at the Van Egmond
house and a golf tournament
in the works at the Seaforth
Gold and Country Club.
A hospitality tent.

Reduce the Risk of West Nile Virus
As the days get shorter and cooler, mosquitoes
are still present and precautions are necessary.
How to prevent mosquitoes bites:
• Take precautions outdoors, especially in early morning and early
evening, when mosquitoes are most active.
• Wear Tight -coloured clothing and cover up whenever possible.
• Use insect repellent containing 10% DEET or less.
What is the County doing?
The County of Huron has a West Nile Virus Advisory Committee
and a program to monitor birds and mosquitoes for West Nile
Virus.
What can you do?
• Stay informed about West Nile Virus.
• Report sightings of dead crows and blue jays to the Health Unit.
• Drain the rain on your home, cottage and business property.
To find out more, visit www.huroncounty.ca or call the Huron
County Health Unit at 482-3416 Ext. 2001. If calling long
distance, dial toll free( -877-837-6143 Ext. 2001.
Saturday, will be set up at the
Legion along with a Friday
night dance, tours of the
museum and a Sunday
brunch.
A ball tournament is being
organized which will be held
at the Optimist Park, Lion s
Park and Winthrop Park.
We have a craft show
being organized and
hopefully it will be in the
public school, said Agar.
We are planning on BBQs
to be held over the weekend
and we 11 have a summer
carnival scheduled for the
Agriplcx and a hot air
balloon will be giving rides
over Seaforth during the
weekend, she said.
Agar describes Saturday
evening event as a
tremendous dance
featuring Eddie and the
Edscls sponsored by the
arena board and the
Optimists.
Because our volunteer

getting older or smaller,

many of our service groups
are working together, said
Agar.
The Business
Improvement Area will be
holding their Moonlight
Madness event of the Friday
evening of the festival
weekend.
Other ideas being tossed
around are a Sunday parade
and Victoria Park bluesfest.
In July, Huron East council
proclaimed the week of July
25 to Aug. 2, Come Home to
the Country week in Huron
East.
The Seaforth Community
Development Trust granted
the festival $20,000 in seed
money to help promote and
organize the festival.
There is still room for
groups or committees to
come up with some ideas for
the weekend, said Agar.
Every idea is a good idea
and welcome, said Agar.
We are going to have fun,
fun, fun on July 29, 30 and
31 next year.
