Seaforth Agricultural Society Correspondents Volunteer • auxiliary 1 ursary Jessica Costello, who has volunteered at Seaforth Community Hospital for nearly 3(X) hours since 1999, was recently awarded the Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary Bursary. Costello's volunteer work at the hospital included serving supper and collecting trays and sitting with patients when they needed company. Her other volunteer work in the community included liturgical reader and Sunday School helper at St. James Church, a Community Living canvasser, Seaforth Fall Fair ambassador runner-up and volunteer at St. Anne's Secondary School's annual fashion show. Legion holds 7gth anniversary Drumhead service last Saturday The Seaforth Legion held its 75th anniversary Drumhead service on Saturday led by the Clinton pipe hand. which added some much needed colour. It would have been nice to see more residents out for it but it went over well with some of our senior vets out on parade. On Saturday evening, the annual Honours and Awards night was held under chairman Jim Watson who as usual did a fine job. Attendance seemed to he larger then the past few years. There were 40 medals and pins awarded. "I'hey included l0 -year associate Members. Joan Flannigan. Gwen Harhurn, Dave Deighton, Jack Case and Deb Barry; 15 -year associate members, Donclda Barry. Cathy Broome. Kevan Seaforth Legion Broome and Peggy Rowcliffe and 20 -year associate member Jane Case, Joan Eaton, Flora Muir and Barb Osborn. Winners. of the 25 -year associate member awards were Neil Beuerman, Don Deighton, Lin Steffler, Bill Ward and Betty Watson and 30 -year associate members were Ed Burt, Ross Govier and Gary Eisler. Regular member pins were awarded to 10 -year member Cheryl McGrath, 15 -year member, John Ryan, 30 -year member Helen MacKenzie and 45 -year member Ross Smale. Recipients of the 50 -year pins were Mel Melanson, Glen Carter, Gerald Groothuis, Don MacRae and Harry Scott. Recipients of the 55 -year pins were John Clarke, Les Leonhardt and Harold Pryce; of the 60 -year pins were Jack Eisler, George Miller and Dick Whitely and Norman Young received a 65 -year pin. Tracy Laframboise was initiated and welcomed to the branch. Prior to the awards there was a buffet of turkey and beef prepared fb'r the Branch Ladies Auxiliary. Branch golf on Saturday, Sept. 25 will be two-man teams with a Ryder cup format. Teams must have a 20 handicap or greater. The cost is $55. The Branch general meeting is at 8 p.m. on Sept.16. Queensway Nursing and Retirement Home's volunteer auxiliary met to discuss the upcoming events for September along with the family Thanksgiving meals scheduled for Sunday. Oct. 3. A large group of residents were out to hear her sermon. Paula and her pet therapy dog "Popcorn" were a welcome sight Wednesday morning for all the dog lovers among us, and we can hardly believe that Popcorn will soon be heading to Florida for the winter. In the afternoon Marg Cole organized the euchre games with three tables sof enthusiasts enjoying the competition. In the evening senior diners met over a delicious meal and good conversation. Sunday afternoon, Dennis Rodgers. musician played a variety of music on saxophone, accordion and piano for residents' enjoyment. Thursday and Friday, the accreditation surveyor was onsite at Queensway meeting with focus groups in order to complete her survey. Residents, family members and community partners participated in the focus groups, answering the surveyor's questions and helping her to get a picture of the Queensway community.
