Drumhead service
More than a dozen area residents gathered at the Seaforth
cenotaph Saturday afternoon for a Drumhead Service
commemorating both the local legion branch's 75th
anniversary as well as marking the third anniversary of the
terrorist -driven attacks along the eastern U.S. seaboard,
which claimed more than 3,000 lives -- 24 of whom were
Canadian. The service is a military tradition dating back to
the clan wars of Scotland. At top, local veterans march in
the parade while at left, the drums are stacked to create an
altar while Zone Commander Shirley Chalmers speaks
above.

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance will receive close
to $700,000 for capital upgrades at its four hospitals,
following a recent announcement by the provincial
government.
Of the total, Seaforth Community Hospital will receive
$107,433, Clinton Public Hospital will recievc $109,594,
St. Marys Community Hospital will receive close to
$100,000 and Stratford General Hospital will receive close
to $460,000, says Alliance vice-president and chief
financial officer Ken Haworth.
"It's good news. It doesn't impact the budget and the
deficit but it helps us deal with building issues," he says.
"We were expecting it but we didn't know what the timing
would be."
Haworth says the funds in Seaforth will go towards
removing harriers to the disabled under the Ontario
Disabilities Act and upgrading sections of the hospital
roof that is leaking.
"The funding is ongoing each year and this year. they'll
mostly go towards health and safety upgrades," says
Haworth.
"In the past we haven't been able to get dependable
funding for capital projects and this funding is meant to
maintain the buildings," he says.
In a press release from Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell, she says over $1.7 million will he going towards
hospitals in Huron and Bruce Counties.
"The McGuinty government is making sure the facilities
for Godcrich, Clinton, Seaforth, Exeter, Wingham, South
Bruce Grcy and Grey Bruce remain in top condition for
patients in Huron -Bruce," she says in the press release.
"This investment will help our local hospitals keep pace
with needed improvements so that they can continue to
offer the very hest care to the residents of Huron -Bruce"
says Mitchell.
A total of $60 million in capital funding - more than
three times the amount spent last year - will he provided
to all Ontario hospitals for projects including:
- renovations to improve the condition and efficiency of
clinical spaces, such as upgrading electrical systems;
- structural repairs, including roof replacement and
removing mould and hazardous materials;
- upgrading heating, ventilation and air conditioning
systems and replacing windows; and
- improvements to comply with safety standards and
building code requirements, such as upgrading fire alarm
systems and hack -up generators.
Funding is being provided through the government's
Health infrastructure Renewal Fund, a new funding
method that will provide hospitals with predictable year-
to-year funding for renewal projects and reduce
administrative overhead, says the press release.
Other hospitals in Huron -Bruce receiving funding
include Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in
Godcrich - $ 118, 488,South Huron Hospital Association
in Exeter - $ 107, 570, Wingham and District Hospital - $
113, 535. South Brucc Grey Health Centre - $ 434, 405
