Huron Expositor, 2004-08-11, Page 11Sports Two local baseball teams win top prize in weekend tournaments Two of Seaforth's three m'inor baseball teams who competed in regional championships over the weekend came home with top prize. The Seaforth boys' Squirt team won the Tri -County A championship in a game against the undefeated Zurich team on Saturday at Optimist Park in Seaforth. The Seaforth Squirts came from behind to win 7-5 after a four -run seventh inning. Seaforth scorers included Devin Simpson, with two runs, Craig Windsor, with two runs and Jordan Currie, Matt Selvey and Luke Harrison, with one run each. The Seaforth Pee Wees also won the A championship in a weekend tournament at Brussels. The Seaforth Squirt girls also played in their year-round tournament in Kincardine and earned the C runner-up position. This year was the first for a girls' Squirt team in Seaforth. S coreboar& KIPPEN GUN CLUB Anderson -Hamm Memorial Shoot July 18 On July 18th the Anderson -Hamm memorial shoot was held at the Kippen Gun Club with 23 shooters in attendance. A Champ was Bill Wylie 99. B Champ was Lloyd Beecraft 98. C Champ was Mauro Faechin 95, Handicap Winner was Brad Mann 95 and Hi overall winner was Jamie Caldwell 188. The Ontario Provincial Trapshooting championships were held at the Hamilton Gun Club Civic Holiday weekend. Several shooters from the Kippen Gun Club were on hand for the 3 day shoot. Jordan Ritchie broke 91 from the 19 yd. line to capture the Sub Jr. title. In Sundays Handicap Championship Jordan received an OPTA engraved watch for his fine performance. Jason Middleton photo Provincial Legion Lawn Bowling Pairs tournament takes place on Seaforth Greens The Provincial Legion Lawn Bowling Pairs tournament was held at the Seaforth Greens on Saturday hosted by Goderich who were last year's winners. This year's winners were again from Goderich, Dennis and Shirley Schmidt. Sixteen teams were in play with Tom Phillips and Dave Watson coming in second and Neil Seaforth Lawn Bowling Beuerman and Jim Stotts in fourth. Tuesday and Friday's jitneys were well attended and Tuesday evening saw Keith Snell, Marg Ungarian, Anne Wood and Yvonne Knight as winners. On Friday winners were Jack Muir and Jason Middleton photo Bag piper Scott Macaulay, of Goderich, leads the teams in during the Provincial Legion lawn Bowling Pairs tournament which was held at the Seaforth Greens last Saturday. In ladies' pairs at Stratford on Friday, Carol Carter of Seaforth bowling with Pat Standeaven of Woodstock won fourth prize.
