Seaforth teams did well. by Mary Finlayson County approves Road Watch signs Crime Stoppers and Road Watch signs are back in the Huron County budget. Council voted to return the $10,000 cost for sign installation to their 2004 budget last week, after hearing a presentation from Crime Stoppers representatives Constable Steve Beasley, • Eric Gosse and Lisa Campbell at the June 9 agriculture, public works and seniors committee meeting. The cost to install the 12 signs was one of many items • eliminated from the 2004 budget earlier this year as council struggled to cut more than $4.5 million from the initial budget, = which showed an increase of 54.3 per cent in spending. The issue resurfaced at last month's meeting when Dave Urlin (South Huron) requested a delegation on'the topic. Committee members initially supported the funding in November 2003 and in turn agreed the funding should be reinstated using money from the now defunct British Commonwealth Air Training Program. At the July 8 meeting treasurer Dave Carey explained that $10.000 could be allocated in the budget because of the program's cancellation - $5,000 each for 2003 and 2004. Urlin told council the funding was a "one shot deal," while Rob Morley (South Huron) explained the group's approval for a Trillium grant was dependent on the county's contribution. However, not all councillors supported the change in position. "I can't support this," John Bezaire (Central Huron) said. "We went through the budget line by line. If it was out, it's out. We can't rehash our budget items. Any extra money we have should be surplus." Bezaire and Joe Seili (Huron East) were the only councillors to vote against the motion to amend the budget.
