How to spot a marijuana grow operation
Would you recognize a
marijuana grow operation if
one was located in your
neighbourhood?
Attendees of the July 19
Seaforth Community
Oriented Policing
information evening learned
that the residents of a
community are one of the
best sources of information to
help police in identifying
marijuana grow operations.
Huron OPP Const. Dave
Gillan said characteristics
which may identify a
marijuana grow operation are
a house with:
• all the windows covered
with cardboard, foil, foam,
blackout drapes
Community Policing
• little or no garbage put out
for curbside collection
• a neglected yard
(grass/garden not maintained
in summer, snow not
shoveled in winter)
• the house occupant(s)
always entering and leaving
house through garage door
and at odd hours
• no snow on the roof or on
the ground close to the house
walls.
Grow house operators set
up shop in all types of houses
- large or small, old or new,
in town or in the country.
Once a house has been used
as a grow house, it may be
unfit for habitation. Toxic
mold in the walls and
extensive, illegal rewiring of
the electrical system make
the house unsafe for future
occupants.
Marijuana grow operations
can also he set up in corn
fields, without the owner's
knowledge. Activity such as
a person parked by the corn
field, going into the field
with shovels at odd hours and
marking specific corn rows
may indicate that more than
corn is being grown.
To help police in their
efforts to identify and
eliminate marijuana grow
operations, report any
suspicions to the OPP at 519-
524-8314 or 1-888-310-1122
or to Crime Stoppers at 1-
888-222-8477.
The next Seaforth
Community Oriented
Policing information evening
will be on Monday, Aug. 16,
7:30 p.m. at the town hall.
The information evening will
deal with domestic abuse
issues, including physical aid
psychological abuse.
Everyone is welcome to
attend.

Trial date set for former Clinton resident
charged with impaired driving causing death
By Cheryl Heath
News -Record Editor
The trial for a West Perth
woman charged in
connection with the death
of a former Clinton resident
is set for Oct. 5 in
Goderich.
Sherri Kyle is charged
with impaired driving
causing death and three
counts of impaired driving
causing bodily harm in
connection to an Oct. 19,
2003 crash that claimed the
life of 31 -year-old Bradley
Jewitt.
Kyle is also charged with
driving a motor vehicle
with over 80 miligrams of
alcohol in her blood.
OPP report the single -
vehicle crash occurred at
approximately 12:30 a.m.
on London Road, just south
of the intersection of Short
Horn Road in Huron East.
Police allege Kyle was
driving northbound in a
black 2001 Chrysler, at a
high rate of speed, when
she passed a vehicle
heading in the same
direction.
According to police, the
driver lost control, entered
the ditch and struck a tree.
One person died and three
others were injured.
Police say alcohol was
detected on the driver's
breath, but officers could
not obtain breath samples
at that time.
As a result, blood
samples were obtained and
sent to the Center oI
Forensic Science for
analysis.
The Crown has elected to
proceed with indictable
charges.
A preliminary hearing
was set for July 26, but the
defence waived that right in
favour of heading to trial.
Due to the Holiday on
Monday, August 2
the deadline for the
Wednesday, August 4 issue
is
Friday, July 30th at 12 Noon
We hope you enjoy a safe & happy
holiday weekend!
