A joint tourism initiative designed to attract thousands of visitors to Huron and Perth Counties as they travel along Highway 8 has been "very positive," said Laurel Armstrong, of Armstrong Tourism and Marketing Services in Ripley. A new Web site to compliment the tourisrn program went into effect on June 25. Armstrong said she was waiting to hear from the Webmaster about how active the site was, but said she expected the site would take off after people start downloading maps and become more familiar with site options. The new Web site — www.shakespearetotheshoreli ne.ca — provides complete information and links for exploring the familiar route and region from the hamlet of Shakespeare, the antique lovers' centre, to the golden shores of Lake Huron. The Shakespeare to the Shoreline travel experience entices visitors and residents to discover and rediscover the bounty of Perth and Huron Counties when they explore the travel corridor using seven 07. Whether you're interested in antiques and collectibles, artisans and art galleries, live theatre and performances, gardens and gardeners' dreams, nature walks, farm markets, historic stops and attractions, they are all highlighted in a convenient brochure package which offers visitors information about the region around Hwy. 8 using maps and seven themed self -guided driving routes. Armstrong said she has received good feedback from both businesses and tourism centres, and plans for a similar project in 2005 are already underway. The Shakespeare to the Shoreline travel experience was developed by Tourism Stratford, Tourism Goderich, Huron Tourism Association, Perth County Tourism, the Huron County Planning and Economic Development department and is supported by the Ministry of Tourism/Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership.
