46 In Memoriam
DUCHARME: In loving memory of
Jim Ducharme who passed away
June 21, 1979.
- Lovingly remembered by Allan,
Chris and Family 46-26x1
OSBORN, Edna: Died June 27,
1998.
Gone are the days of the neigh-
bourhood ladies coming to quitting
bees,
Along with the big meals made for
all the silo fillers that came.
The Sunday moming sing alongs
around the piano are no more.
And the winter Sunday afternoon
games of euchre and crokinole no
longer exist.
It was great fun to get out the box of
old photos and learn who's who in
the family tree.
No longer are the many hours spent
canning, preserving and pickling
but the recipes will be passed on to
generations to follow - along with
the quilt patterns
These are truly your legacy.
I miss the big pots of homemade
soup and bread puddings (the
tomato soup cake not so much).
The phone doesn't ring every day
just to see what's new.
The lessons in how to stretch a dol-
lar, how to make something from
nothing and how to be happy with
what you've got can't be taught in
any education system.
They were taught from the heart.
Your artist shop has closed • no
longer any sewing done - no longer
any wedding cakes made.
But your little house that was
always filled with kids will still carry
on that tradition.
We love you and miss you. Your
memories will live on forever.

Cheryl and Jackie 46-26xlcc
NOLAN: In loving memory of a dear
husband, father, grandfather and
great grandfather Joe who lett us 2
years ago, June 28, 2002.
He left us quietly,
His thoughts unknown,
But he lett us a memory,
We are proud to own.
So treasure him Lord,
In your garden of rest.
For when on earth,
He was one of the best.
- Always loved and sadly missed by
wife Helen, children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren. 46-26x1

Pollution
should be
taxed,
says Vasey
From Page 6
that the Green Party would
tax under its plan to shift
taxes to corporations that
pollute.
"We want to increase
corporate taxes because
corporations get away with
a lot. We need to find ways
to encourage them to be
more socially progressive
and environmentally
responsible," he says.
Vasey says corruption in
government must end and
points out that the Green
Party would give ethics
training to first-time
politicians and release
quarterly reports detailing
all government spending to
the public.
But, he points out that the
recent sponsorship scandal
involving the Liberal
government is "a moot
point in the long run."
"As much as it was a
scandal, we have bigger
issues to face right now. We
have to go well beyond
Kyoto if we're going to do
something to affect climate
change. That, to me, is .
something to be concerned
about."
Vasey says the Green
Party wants to help farmers
by supporting the family
farm and organic farming
practices and encouraging
local markets.
"Commercial farming
practises are not sustainable
because they create a long-
term loss of biodiversity,"
he says.
He says he sees the BSE
(mad cow) crisis as a result
of relying on export markets
instead of Canadian.
"The reality of BSE is
economics, not health
because the U.S. is enjoying
record-breaking profits in
the beef industry right
now," he says.
Vasey says the solution to
the problems with Canada's
health care system is an
increased focus on
prevention and the causes of
illness while continuing to
support a publicly -funded
system.
"The fast food industry is
creating $3.6 pillion in
health care costs every year
and smog costs the health
care system $1 billion a
year. Ultimately, we lower
costs by getting
preventative now." he says.
Vasey would also like to
see lower tuition costs for
medical students and an
increased use of immigrant
doctors in the Canadian
system.
