St. James track and field results from Huron -Perth system meet Stephen Sharpe, of St. James School, shared the overall senior boys' championship at the Huron - Perth system track meet in Goderich last Wednesday. Sharpe placed first in 400 - metre, 800 -metre and 1,500 - metre. Also placing in the senior boys' category were Kyle Cronin, who came second in running long jump, Dan Dwyer, who came third in 100 -metre race and Chad Van Dyk, who came third in ball throw and shot put. In the senior girls' category, Sarah Johnston came second in 800 -metre race and Brittany Nigh came third in 1,500 -metre. Sean Fraiser came second in the intermediate hoys' ball throw, Connor Devereaux came third in the intermediate boys' triple jump and Jesse Flanagan came second in both the 200 -metre and 400 -metre races. In the junior girls' category, Ashley Janmaat came second in the 100 - metre race and Sara Kramers came second in the 200 - metre and thrid in thc 400 - metre. Kalen Devereaux came first in the junior boys' running long jump and Dean Johnston came third in the junior boys' hall throw. St. Columban track meet results Kristina Dekroon, of St. Columban School, came first in the intermediate girls' ball throw at the Huron -Perth system track and field meet in Goderich last Wednesday. The intermediate girls' relay team of Eliscia Ryan, Patricia Schicker, Angela Beuermann and Josie Scott came second. Caley Nicholson came second in the senior girls' 400 -metre race. The junior boys' relay team of Michael Deloyer, Nic Flanagan, Tim Ryan and Chris Poppe came third and the senior boys' relay team of Tyson Avery, Alex Murray, Brendan Ryan and Nathan Kinsman came third. Correspondents Alex Murray came second in the senior boys' 800 - metre race and in the senior girls' category, JaneIle Murray came third in both running long jump and triple long jump. St. Columban soldier begins six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan with CAF Family members, relatives, neighbours and friends filled St. Columban Church to capacity as they gathered to celebrate with Gerry and Karen Ryan at a mass of thanksgiving on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. Present with the couple were their family, Jason, Amanda and Jeremy Ryan and Mrs. Cecilia Ryan. Father Lance Magdziak presided at the ceremony. At the end of mass, Father Lance invited Gerry and Karen forward to renew their marriage vows. At a reception following the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a memorable "Through the Years" slide show. Gerry and Karen were also serenaded by his family with a special song led by Les Ward. There, has been a number of recent visitors from Holland. Visiting with Bev Klaver were her sisters Nel Ros and Sister Laura Wagemaker from North Holland. They visited with relatives in the arca and St. Columban enjoyed a dog show in Newmarket while visiting Simon Klaver. Visiting with Martha and Matt Claessens were her oldest brother, Matthew Vermeulen and his daughter, Antonette Van Tillart, from Brabant, South Holland. They visited with Mary Diegel at St. Catharines and spent a day at Niagara Falls. Visiting with Anna deWitt and her son Ted were her brother Freek and Corry van Kooten from North Holland. They travelled around Algonquin Park and Wiarton area. Also visiting were Henrietta and Harry Vlemmix and family. Many residents from this area contributed in memory of Loretta (Murray) Butters to the "Relay for Life" cancer, run which was held this • past weekend in Richmond, B.C. Gord Butters and his family raised over $12,000 as they participated in the 12 -hour or Bonoll�s by Paul Thompson, Janet Amos and the'Co. Loretta was the daughter of Vincent Murray, of Seaforth. Students at St. Columban School participated in the recent track and field day held in Goderich. A few of the students brought home medals. Grade 8 students have returned from a trip to Ottawa where they visited the Parliament buildings, Rideau Hall, thc Mint and RCMP headquarters. They also saw thc Rideau Canal and drove past thc Prime Minister's residence. The students arc also preparing for a talent show being held this week in the gym. The Grade 8 class is also preparing for graduation to be hold later this week. Ron and Mary Ryan have learned that their son, Corporal Joseph Ryan. CFB Winnipeg, has arrived safely in Afghanistan where he is serving a six-month tour of duty with other members of the Canadian Armed Forces in a support capacity.
