The drive shed had two of its pillars lifted out of the ground. The shed was thrown into the addition that the family added last year. The shed left a huge crevasse in the roof. An empty grain bin blew off its spot and flew into the family's two cars, their pool and landed in a tree to the rear of the house. The windows on one side of the house were pushed inward. The windows in the house all sustained cracking the frame. T h e family returned from a night at the movies to find a field full of debris and severe damage to their house and barn. "I was crying when I saw what happened," said 10 -year-old Kaitlin. Later that evening, the family contacted the above prayer Quoted chain at their church. Soon 'It's amazing that all the clean-up got done in one day,' -- Nick Pock.r, 17 after, 100 people came to help with t h e immediate clean-up. T h e Christian family took Sunday as a day of rest. 0 n Monday, the family along with almost 200 people from Gorrie Bible Fellowship, Auburn Missionary Church and Bethel Bible Church, cleaned up a mess in one day that normally would have taken a few weeks to clean up. "It's amazing that basically all the clean-up got done in one day. We thought we'd be doing that for one to two weeks," said Nick, 17. According to Environment Canada, an F2 tornado with winds of 240 km/h hit Mitchell shortly after 7 p.m. the same night. The tornado ripped the roof off a south end Mitchell home and caused other damage in the neighbourhood. Tornadoes in Ontario are not uncommon. On average 14 hit the province during tornado season which runs from May to June. David Phillips of Environment Canada said that people might be under the assumption that this tornado season is very active, but it's not. So far Ontario has seen four tornadoes and Phillips said some people might think, "This looks like it would be the Hollywood -type storm season here in Southern Ontario, but there's no truth to it." If a tornado warning has been issued, people are warned to be cautious and stay in their basements. Another sign that a tornado could happen is severe thunderstorms. As for Rick and Lynn. Packer and their children Kaitlin, Dan, 13, and Nick, they are happy no one was hurt. "We thank the Lord for protecting our family," said Lynn.
