TY s 02004 Sawn, I/•.titp. sNs)t VOA Correspondents Local family returns from magical voyage Larry, Sherri and Dawn Cronin have returned from a motor trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Staying at the Music Resort, they travelled the Magical Kingdom, meeting many of the Disney characters and participating at the night parade and fireworks. At MGM where many of the sets from the Disney movies are kept, they enjoyed the experience of the front lawn from the movie "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" by sliding down the leaves and walking around the place as little people where everything else is larger than life. Taking a jeep ride through Animal Kingdom, they enjoyed the gigantic zoo, the bird sanctuary and white water rafting. The Cronins enjoyed the many sights and sounds and described it as a trip of a lifetime which everyone should experience at least once. The sympathy of the community is extended to the Nolan family at the loss of Louie Nolan, a longtime former parishioner. In a fitting tribute, Jim Murray spoke on behalf of Louie's extended family, describing his uncle's love for animals, his visiting and care and concern for many family members. Louie will be remembered as a farmer, recognized by his plaid shirt and striped overalls. The St. Columban parish hall was filled to capacity as the parishioners enjoyed a cake and coffee social at a recent gathering to honour their pastor, Father Lance, on the occasion of his 15th anniversary as a priest. Students at St. Columban School are anticipating the grand opening of their new fitness centre. After three years of extensive work by people in the community to fundraise, the red ribbon ceremony will be held on May 12. The students are also preparing for the annual two - pitch system tournament scheduled for May 28 in Stratford. biligently practicing their skills, the school has two senior boys' teams and two senior girls' teams as well as a junior boys' and girls' team. On Friday, the students participated in "Jersey Day" during which each student wore their favourite jersey, making the school a very colourful place. The Hensall and Community Horticultural Society's annual plant auction will be held on May 26 at 7:15 p.m. at Hensall United Church. Rev. Pirie Mitchell will be the auctioneer. Come out and enjoy the friendship of our May meal at the Hensall Drop - In on May 20 at Hensall United Church. Lunch will be served at noon. Following lunch we will be hearing from Shoreline Health Co. We welcome all local individuals to this luncheon held on the third Thursday of each month. The cost is $5 per person. At Carmel Presbyterian Church, minister Tracy Whitson-Bahro's message was "What I want for you." Joyce Pepper was the organist with Robert Bell and Harry Smith receiving the offering. May 30 is the date of the anniversary service at Carmel Presbyterian Church. At Hensall United Church Pastor Fred Darke's message was "We are family." The greeter was Ken Elder with Judy and Gary Kyle receiving the offering. Chuck Mallette was the organist and Judy Mallette read the scripture and also lit the Christ Candle. On Thursday May 13 the official board meeting of the church committees will begin at 7 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m., the board will convene. Hensall will be holding its 20th annual Village Wide Yard and Garage Sale on Saturday, May 29(always the last Saturday in May). "Bean Counting Birthdays" is the theme of the 136th annual Spring Fair. Homecraft and school displays, chicken barbecue, light horse show, mini tractor pull, pork auction, ambassador of the fair contest, ATV pull, parade, Old McDonald's farm, and midway are all offered with free admission to the fair both days. Saturday evening, the Hensall Fair Board will host a CKNX am 920 country video dance party from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. at the arena.
