Home and Garden Style to raise funds
for local Lung Association programs
"A bouquet of fresh ideas for your home and garden" awaits
you at Home and Garden Style 2004 to be held Wednesday,
May 5 at the Seaforth Community Centre, 122 Duke St.
This annual fundraiser to support the work of The Lung
Association will feature four exciting speakers, a silent
auction, a raffle and coffee and dessert.
James Eddington of Eddington's Fine Dining in Exeter will
show us how to simplify summer meal -making with wraps;
Shirley Koch of Riverbend Gardens and Nursery in Wroxeter
will discuss "Hot New Perennials - Hostas, Daylilies and
More"; Chris Collison of Exeter's Partner's Paint & Paper will
demonstrate "Fabulous Fresco"; and the Total Image 11 team
of Karen Ryan, Amanda Ryan and Heather Shean from
Seaforth will show us "How to Create a New You".
Bryan Bicknell of the New NX will emcee the evening.
A selection of silent auction items has been donated by
businesses and individuals throughout Huron County and
beyond.
Garden items, restaurant gift certificates, theatre tickets,
books and golf packages are just 9 few of the items.
Attendees can also purchase raffle tickets on a number of
extra -special items including a bistro set for the garden, a
"pamper yourself' package and more.
Home & Garden Style 2004 is organized by a committed
group of Huron County volunteers to benefit The Lung
Association, Huron -Perth.
Last year's event raised more than $4000.
All proceeds from the evening will support Lung
Association health initiatives, such as the Asthma Action
Program and BreathWorks, as well as help fund vital medical
research into respiratory disease.
One in five Canadians lives with some type of breathing
problem - the work of The Lung Association is more
important than ever.
Tickets to Home & Garden Style 2004 are $10 and are
available at Nifty Korners in Seaforth, Between Friends in
Clinton, by calling Trish at 527-2085 or Joyce at 263-2682 or
at the door.
ABCA planting 80,000 trees this spring
Nearly 80,000 trees will
be planted this spring
through the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation
Authority tree planting
program.
"The majority of the trees
are two-year-old seedlings
but 1,800 are larger stock,"
explained ABCA Land
Stewardship Specialist
Kathy Hodgins.
The trees will serve a
number of environmental
purposes including creating
buffers along streams,
reforesting floodplains,
increasing forest cover and
reducing soil erosion by
retiring erosion -prone
farmland.
Grants from Healthy
Futures for Ontario
Agriculture, Habitat
Stewardship Project,
Canada -Ontario Agreement,
Ontario Power Generation
and Huron Stewardship
Council helped pay for
projects to improve water
quality or fish and wildlife
habitat.
The ABCA will be
planting trees for 22
landowners and 131
families will be planting
their own trees.
Tree planting is an
important component of the
ABCA's vision of healthy
watersheds and goal of
achieving 20 per cent tree
cover.
Today, most townships
have less than 10 per cent.
More than five million trees
have been planted through
the ABCA.
People interested in
planting trees this fall or
next spring can contact the
ABCA at 235-2610 or
www . a b c a. o n. c a
<http://www.abca.on.ca> to
receive an order form.
