St. Columban
from a 10 -day bus trip to
Florida with "The Seaforth
and District All Girls
Marching Band."
Staying at Treasure Island
(near Tampa), 70 young
ladies from Huron County
performed in the band. The
girls visited Busch Gardens
and Disney's Magic
Kingdom, giving
performances at both places.
At Dunedin, they performed
both the Canadian and
American national anthems at
the opening of a hall game
between the Blue Jays and the
Cincinnati Reds. They also
enjoyed an N.H.L. hockey
game, with the New York
Islanders playing against the
Tampa Bay Lightning. One of
the highlights was a day of
sea-dooing among the
dolphins.
Jim and Janneke Murray
have returned home from a
winter vacation in Sarasota,
Florida. While there they
were visited by their
daughters Michelle Murray
and Morgan Terpstra and
family.
The students of St.
Columban School have
returned to their school work
after March break. One of the
big area events for March
Break is the annual
elementary school hockey
tournament sponsored by the
local Knights of Columbus.
An estimated 375+ young
people participated in the
event. 24 teams travelling
from St. Columban, Dublin,
Seaforth, Clinton, Goderich,
Kingsbridge, Wingham,
Kinkora, Zurich, Exeter,
Mount Carmel and St. Marys
played in the two-day
tournament.
In Junior play on Saturday,
St. Columban Two defeated
St. Columban One.6-3, then
lost out to Exeter in a good,
close game with a 2-1 score.
St. Columban One was
defeated by Seaforth 5-0 to
end their play for the day.
In Senior play on Sunday,
St. Columban lost out to
Goderich by 5-2, and then
lost to St. James, Seaforth by
a score of 2-1, ending their
play.
The St. Marys Junior teams
won both the "A" and "B"
trophy. The Goderich Senior
tear) won the "A" trophy,
while the St. Marys Senior
team won the "B" trophy.
